No I have one, I think its the coolest thing ever. Its a little difficult right now because alot of companies are not absolutely ready cough*HP*cough with drivers for printers and stuff. But they will be in about a week or so. But Other than that I am very impressed, and love Vista and Office 2007.
In response to all of the rumors about vista having problems: There are no problems I have had with it and Ive been using it for about a month now. It has never had a problem and actually runs more smoothly and quickly than XP worked on this computer. Plus I have hundreds of programs that I used on XP and they all work perfectly fine on Vista. I really like it. It looks and runs awesomly.

Unless you buy an "old computer" or a MAC you won't be able to buy a new computer from a retail store WITHOUT Vista in a couple of months.
If you buy one right now you can probably find one with XP on it and a certificate to get Vista which can be installed when you want to. That is problably the way to go if you want a new laptop and aren't sure you want Vista yet.
Yes updates to VISTA will come out just like they do for Windows XP.

I don't see why it would be a mistake, I'm sure it would be fine, but if you are really worried that it might have a problem just get the new laptop with XP, and then wait and see what everyone says about vista. Also, it may not be a good idea, because then you will have to learn all the features of vista AND the new computer you have just bought.

No,it won't be a big mistake, but most places like PCWorld,Dixons etc.,are selling laptops with pre-installed windows xp with an offer of a free upgrade to vista if you buy a laptop before 27th March 2007,this may be a better option for you if you're unsure.I bought a laptop from PCWorld in November 2006 and have just applied for the upgrade and have requested the software rather than the online download. This means that you can run both xp and vista on your laptop as a dual boot.Hope this helps

I have used vista on each beta that they came out with and I must say that it WILL be great but it has a lot of bugs that are going to cause problems. I would hold off for a while. maybe buy a new notebook now with xp and an option to upgrade later. My company is not building machines with vista yet. I work for a lot of small businesses and they can not afford to be down for silly vista problems or even the learning curve.

Considering the system requirements needed to run Vista and the expense of laptop hardware, I'd say you're probably better off buying a new laptop with XP on it. I beta test for Vista, and it's merely a flashy version of XP, similar to the interface of Mac OSX somewhat. So, yes, it is slightly silly. Go for the XP or a desktop with Vista.

Well, I can tell you, that it's possible for you to download Vista from the internet, without spending any of your money (besides broadband connection fee). The specifications of the laptop and how much it costed you would give you a good indication if it was well worth it.
I have my eye on the Intel Core 2 Extreme. I'd love a laptop with THAT CPU.
To answer your question, I think it was possible it was a mistake, but not a stupid one. Hehe.

Well, it could be stupid, but doing it would't actually be a mistake, as it would be a catastrophe!
So, I would call it a stupid catastrophe!
here's why:
1. a warranteed refurbished Dell laptop, from http://Cheaptronicsdepot.com would run $219 to $549 with warranty.
2. it would come with much faster, more compact, XP
3. Vista is a huge resource hog, and is straight out the gate, so give it some time to get fixed up!
4. Vista, like XP, and Win98/ME are all consecutive processing Operating Systems. Very slow, actually, for the supersonic hardware you can have them run on.
5. A laptop with something else, like old stock from December/january, would have XP, and be discounted greatly.
Whatever you get, stick a free LiveCDrom in, and see the 50X faster concurrent processing really scream! http://pclinuxos.com

No, I do not think it is a stupid idea, but I think you should wait a little longer if you can. That will give them time to get some of the bugs out. I read where they still have a few problems with windows vista, and should be worked out shortly. But, if you need a new computer right away, I would go ahead and buy it. good luck..

No, Vista is going to be the way forward and soon all pc's will need Vista on. XP will go down the same road as 98 has recently - no more security upgrades = hacker's paradise.
If you are unsure, set up a dual boot system so you have the choice of either Vista or XP.
