i would say the difference is if you were to land of one of the least expensive properties you would not have to pay as much money to who ever owns it as you would the expensive one. Example I believe that boardwalk is one of the expensive ones. If you were to land on it and somebody "owns" it, you would have to pay them money. if they have houses or a hotel on it it will cost you even more money. I guess the object is to see who can get the most money or the most properties, i have not played it for a really long time but hopefully this helped you out a little bit. If not sorry!

The least expensive properties the dark purples are 60 dollars a piece. (They are Mediterranean and Baltic Avenues) The most expensive, the dark blues are the most expensive: 400 and 350 dollars. (That's Boardwalk and Park Place). If you get a hotel on the most expensive purple, and someone lands on it, they pay you 450 dollars. If you have a hotel on Boardwalk, they pay you 2000 dollars. BIG difference, if you ask me.

Buying Cheaper property as opposed to expensive property. Cheaper property is easier to obtain from other players because it is easier to buy. You can also place houses and hotels on cheaper properties easier because the houses are cheaper to buy. With more expensive property you mak,e much more money once you have a complete color group and can bankrupt other players faster. But there is a risk of players not landing on your expensive property and you go bankrupt faster.

In Monopoly your aim is to be the richest player. So, more expensive properties means higher rent and less expensive properties means lower rent.
At the beginning its best to buy whatever property you can get. After that, when you start making rent you can upgrade or buy the more expensive properties.
