I completely agree. I don't care about what people are doing in Hollywood. They have their lives and I have mine. But the genocide in Darfur is another matter. That we should do something about.
And child, you really shouldn't use your name on the internet.

Yeah, genocide has been happening many times over history, but recent "ethnic cleansing" has been in the Balkan States (like Bosnia and Chechnya, that area) and in Africa, as well as in WWII in Europe. There was genocide in Haiti, too--Dominicans came over to the Haitian side of Hispaniola and massacred thousands and thousands of Haitians in just one day during WWII.
Sometimes it's overwhelming, but you need to know what's going on. Don't get caught up thinking that the world is horrible and there's nothing you can do--don't let all the awful stuff you see and hear get you so depressed you can't act.
You can make a difference--be creative and get involved, even if it's just telling people around you the stuff you read about online or saw on TV or online or whatever. I think that's why a lot of people like "celebrity news"--part of it is that they are fed lots of "news" and just come to expect it, and part of it is that they want an escape from the horrors of real news.
Don't avoid the real news, though! Avoid celebrity news if you want--it's not important. I'm glad you're figuring this out now.

I'm sick of the star struck mentality as well. So they sing or act, that is their profession. I don't want someone's autograph because they drive a taxi and I don't want someone's autograph because they are in a huge film. I don't care what their personal life is and it's crazy that people can receive millions for a picture of their baby... pfft. If I want gossip I'll hang out with my friends or go get my hair done, otherwise when I'm watching the news I want real news.

A major chunk of society has the same feelings as you do. We all are concerned about things like what has been happening in Africa, but none of us are able to do something about it in this fast paced, self-oriented newage life.

Yes. If people cared more about the suffering of others and less about what celebrities are up to, I think the world would be a much better place.
Good for you for having your heart in the right place.
