Yes of course it's scary if you haven't done it before but women don't realize that once they are in labor they will be surprised at how well they do and how well you cope. And it's painful but you have a lot of pain relfief options. Don't do an epidural just because that's what everybody is doing. I on the other hand wouldn't recommend it because I had one with my first and only pregnancy so far and didn't realize how numb you feel. Plus I was still uncomfortable. I'm not getting one next time. Seriously talk to your doctor about pain relief options and make sure you know all about them and what your options are. You will hear so many conflicting/different stories on here and it will probably make things worse. Everybody is different and everybody has their own experience. Please talk to a professional.

Childbearing does hurt, but there are all kinds of safe drugs that make the pain quite bearable. If you're uncomforable about an epidural, discuss other options with your doctor. Some hospitals have nitrous gas (like at the dentist's office) that you can use for the worst part of the contractions and still be alert and unmedicated in between. The contractions are the painful part, but the fear is often worse than the experience.

What's a contraction like? It's the worst case of gas you've ever had multiplied somewhat. Keep in mind that women have endured it since the dawn of humanity and 99% of them would've told you that it was worth every unpleasant second. You'll be fine!

I'm not a woman, but I have experienced the whole ordeal with my wife.
I'd be lying to you if I said it "didn't" hurt. Of course it hurts.
Yes, you can have an epidural. However, you can't be dilated to a certain point. I believe a 7. After that point, it's too late. That's what happened to my wife.
The epidural is also painful. A huge needle in your spine. But hey, a moment of pain, hours of feeling high.
My wife commented that she doesn't remember a lot of the pain. Sure, it hurt at the moment, but she wasn't thinking about it. Once the baby comes out, you don't remember the pain. The joy of the baby overrides all.

Yes it's painful. It's more painful for some and less painful for others. You can get an epidural. I had 3 during two labors and they are very safe. There are other options for dealing with the pain if you're worried about getting an epidural.

no its not as painful as people say it is its just like period cramp honestly then it starts to get stronger thats when the real contractions start but you,ll not be in established labour until your 3 cm dilated and some people are in pain when there 1 cm dilated which is pretty scary for you to hear i bet but you,ll have nothing to worry about you,ll have a lovely bundle of joy at the end of it and no you cant get the epidural when your delivering because it does,nt take effect the latest you,ll be allowed it is 3 cm dilated but you have a buton to press if you feel its wearing off and you need more pain releif

child birth is painful i wont lie to you. i have 3 of my own. but if it were that horrible i would have stopped at 1 lol the epidural i used with all 3 of my labors and worked wonderfully. they are the safest form of pain meds you can use. and it doesnt effect the baby. there are risks with everything but i have never heard or seen anyone have problems with them. good luck

It's normal to be afraid... it is very painful!!

Yes, you can have an epidural during labour... but they usually wait until you're in active labour before giving it to you. There are many other pain management options too.

Don't be afraid... it's very natural, your body knows what to do.
