Definitely all the across clues first then the downs - don't know why. Unfortunately I live in Switzerland now and my German is c**p so I can't do the crosswords here and international papers are outrageously expensive. I ought to get my Mum to send me a book of them - yeah good idea. Thanks!

I like to go with #17 Across, then do all the Down's which are EVEN numbered. After that, I start to do all the ODD NUMBERED Across, and then finally I alternate (#1 Down, #2 Across, etc.)

i like to word the puzzle down. I think that it goes faster and the words connect to the clues for the across. No matter how many ways i try the New York Times crossword, i still can't get one finished.

I start in the center and work out from there, across and down, whichever comes next

Oh I start at 1 and then work randomly from there. No pattern is a pattern to you know.
