Does anyone know how we in here the US are the one's that got the rights to be called Americans?

We are "part" of North America-What about Central America or south America. I was curious to why none of them are reffered to as "Americans" as we are?

That show Ugly Betty starring America Ferrera from South America made a comment once that made sense and got me wondering. Are not we ALL Americans??

That's how we in the rest of America feel. To deny the existence of the American continent, arguing that what exist are South America and North American continents is childish. I mean, who discovered South and who discovered North America?

Many Latin American countries have the word "America" in their anthems, there are some football clubs in Latin America that are named "America".

But the truth is that our neighboors in the north have always lived with their backwards pointed to their own continent.

i agree with the first two United Statians would be to hard to say basically and it could just depend on where you live...

meaning the "United Statians" say americans
the Central Americans say americans when they talk about themselves or the South Americans say americans when they talk about themselves.....

i dunno if you understand what im trying to say but it sounded better in my head haha

ps- i do agree that we are all americans of south, north, and central america........but a lot of people do say im north american or south american, and possibly im central american as well (but i havent heard that one yet), it might also have to deal with the fact that we are also known as United States of America..and America would be short for that.

So that's where this debate surfaced from. My theory is that it's because UnitedStatesians sounds a bit ridiculous. Also, "America" is not a continent. There are two American continents and we do speak of North Americans and South Americans.

Its too difficult to say United Statians. As far as I'm concerned if people in Chile and Canada want to call themselves Americans too, I'm not going to stop them.
