At some point every generation questions whether or not technology is growing too rapidlly and is taking over. Heck, it's the premise of about half of all science fiction.
I see it in myself, I was just starting out when PC's came on the scene. Now I just can't keep up.
In answer to your question, I hope not. I think technology is the answer to many of our problems and we should promote all the sciences. Remember the Dow Chemical motto: "Better living through Chemistry"

At some point the human race will have to lessen its attachments to technology, if we are to become sustainable on this planet. This means changing how we use some technologies, increasing use of others, and abandoning some others altogether. Right now, we are so entertained at rapid advancements that we appear in many ways to be living for technology rather than utilizing it wisely. I definitely do not think we will go back to a 19th century lifestyle. Either we are going to mess up this planet and eachother really bad (the path we are on now), or we are going to figure out how to coexist with technology, each other, and the planet in new and respectable ways.

Technology will not go away without some major social upheaval. Even if a monumental change occurs ( along the lines of the Black Plague ), eventually society as a whole will revert back to accepting technology as a part of its everyday life. There could certainly be cultural differences as to how much technology would be tolerated, but it would still come back.

Not unless someone pushes the button, it won't be going away. The thing that I see is that we are getting so technological that we are losing or selves in it. Think about the cost of repairs alone. Remember when people could repair their own cars. Now days you have to have a computer diagnostician to diagnose your car before it can be repaired, all cars now have computer chips, so that the lay man cannot determine whats wrong. What about you're computer, can you repair it? They have invented a refrigerator that requires Internet hook up, I wouldn't want to pay the repair bills on that one, why, so that it prints out a shopping list. Myself, I'm getting lost, just trying to remember all the pass words. Think about this, remember when they invented electric windows in cars, yeah that's great, unless you get washed off the road and can't get out of the car because its submerged under water. The only thing that you can do is kick the window out to escape, and I think that is probably harder than it sounds. New and improved isn't always a good thing.

Not a chance. Even with great catastrophe. Too many brilliant people out there who know how to make things and will forever want new technology.
