What, if anything, do you think would happen? Let's suppose that we confirmed that on the planet Mars, or whatever planet fits your coozy, that in fact we found another species of animal. Two legged or four-legged.......doesn't matter. What would the religious fanatics do?? And would it change the U.S. / or rest of the world thinking that we are not alone. Would it change politics into a new world order with a theme of 'manifest destiny'? A new battle, to explore more and faster than others. A new way of thinking........What if we found another earth?? Who could populate it, and could you deny someone the right to live there? If you think about it........A religion could have an entire planet to itself. Eventually that would die out b/c people will inherently do what they want no matter the cost............what's your take on any of this?? Please don't respond if your dumb enough to believe that evolution never happened..........I just want an interesting conservation.....

I guarantee that there are other organisms living in our solar system. They may not be "intelligent", but there is life. Jupiter's moon Europa is a moon that is made up entirely of ice and water and it has an atmosphere. We aren't even close to serious space travel though. We're still using rockets to get from point A to point B. I don't think that finding life is going to destroy religion, and it shouldn't. In politics i hope that it would bring more awareness and research to astronomy. NASA deserves more funding than it receives. Take money from our social programs that produce no results and give it to NASA. As a society we can learn a lot through the space program and it gives back more than the social programs can ever give back to society.

I don't really see how evolution really comes into your question, unless you are saying that what we discovered on this new earth is an upcoming Earth (what Earth may have previously been like). I think for the most party people would just be fascinated and wouldn't let it consume them. The U.S. would most certainly be the first to visit/arrive and they would only build friendly relationships; I'm sure we'd just treat it like a different country. If there weren't humans then we would probably try and study it and possible make it habitable, but I never think it would replace what we have. As for religion, I don't think it would matter. People would just believe that God's expanse is as great as they always believed, but would now be able to visualize it better. Evolutoin doesn't necessarily conflict with religion.

The religious people would find a way to fit it into their religious views. I once heard a lady say that it would only enhance her feeling the greatness of God at work in the universe. She said that if alien life existed but was not mentioned in the bible it is because God did not deem it necessary to tell us about it. I am sure it would make some doubt, but not all.

Religion has a hard enough time with Darwin. I'd hate to see what the debate would be about life on another planet. It's likely religious extremists wouldn't want it taught in school.

I think religion would conform to that finding like it did during the beginning of the Renaissance and the changing of alchemy to the modern sciences that we know today. The church changed to accommodate the findings and change in beliefs of the populace. It would have to or it would die. Read the book "The Re enchantment of the World" by Morris Berman.

Well, it might throw some religions into a ****** hat (old school reference, there), but most people would just be too damned arrogant to let it affect their worldview or anything else.
It would be like any of the classic sci-fi films; we'd shoot first and ask questions later.
Yee-haw, eh Cooter?
(that was satire, for those of you that didn't know)

I'd like to think it would expand our minds to a far larger dimension than we currently have - with our petty differences and biases. Hopefully the differences would not be in such sharp contrast anymore......
If we confirmed intelligent life that was far our superior, it definitely would have enormous positive effects..... eventually.

Not much unless the alien life form was the Messiah and it came to Earth to run for the presidency.
