Its easy... but time consuming.

1) Clean off grease and grime from the pieces. If they come off the engine it is easier if not then in place (a home pressure wash helps because you can also clean off the engine at the same time.

2) Make sure the chrome is completely dry.

3) Use a good grade of chrome cleaner (from an auto store) it is generally a paste or thick liquid from a bottle. Apply it to the chrome and rub unti all of the small oxidation burrs are gone.

4) Put on a pair of latex gloves and remove the wax. Use several towels to do this. One to remove most of the wax and a second to polish it to mirror. Don't touch it with your fingers without a glove on. This leaves oil which will catch debris and, when it heats up from the engine heat, will make a spot that you will have to re-clean.

5) Put the parts back on (if you took any off) with the gloves still on

6) Step back and go .. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Like everyone said, any chrome cleaner can shine up the fiddly bits on an car/bike/engine but if you want a quick easy fix on a large chrome surface then try this.

Gasoline. Carefully dab some on a shop rag and wipe the area. Done!

This is only recommended on solid chrome pieces and should not be used on chrome plated plastic. If you have bugs and tar and junk on a chrome bumper, a bit of gasoline on a shop rag will cut right through it in half the time of a fancy cleaning product. No harm to the metal.

Speaking of shiny silvery surfaces.... here's a household tip, nothing shines up a chrome plated kitchen faucet quicker than windex. Try it. The faucet must be dry, spray windex, wipe with dry kitchen towel.

Enjoy!

The best way to clean ANY part of a car is to first start off with 3-4 HOT CHICKS in BIKINIS!!! Then get some soapy water, sit back and watch!!! The chrome on the car might not shine but your smile will for days!!!

Hi there ,
Mythbusters did a test and found out the the best way to make the Chrome shine was by using Coca-Cola . It had something to do with the acidity in the soda. Hope this helps.

Have you ever heard of Dri Wash'n Guard.
It is a cleaner and protects, they have one that works the best on Chrome, it is a company called Enviro-Tech International,
the company is in Las Vegas. You can get it for the Upholstery
& Carpet, others for the rest of the car, It Cleans & shine,
once you use it, you will never use anything else. I haven't checked on the Internet they should have a website by now.
I once sold it and Detailed cars,Cycles, 18 Wheeler trucks
I even used it in my home. it is waterless, I will give you a phone # 800-820-6893, Ask who sells it close to you. Good luck

The best way to clean chrome is with fine steel wool. Steel wool has a number to rate the grade. You want 00. That is about the finest you can buy in a store. Make sure the chrome is dry when you do it. Dust off the steel wool fibers with a a brush or with air and then use a good chrome polish on it. Mothers Polish is the best there is.

The 1st thing you want to do is give the cover a good wash, then buy a product called Eagle One Never Dull use that, then use Mothers Chrome Polish. After you done that put a coat of car wax over the chrome. It will protect it from rusting and will be easier to clean.

Believe it or not soda will actually work rather well if you don't have any chrome cleaner at home. This urban legend was featured on an episode of "Mythbusters" in case you saw the episode before.

Chrome cleaner is of course the best option though, but try soda if you're not a repairsman type of person.
