IS being in a long distance relationship the right thing to do after only knowing someone for four months?

If it seems to be working, I'd say yes, but I just came out of a 7 month 100 mile long distance relationship. I was expected to sell my house, quit my 2 jobs and run off where I didn't know anyone, he wasn't able to contribute anything to the relationship financially. When I asked things to slow down, he blew a fuse and because of that we are no longer together. All I can say is take it slow, both be willing to contribute and know this is what you both want.
