I just guess my skin tone, but concealer is to hide pimples etc. and foundation is an alkl over face coverage that doesn't give complete coverage like concealer. hope this helps!

foundation is a liquid that gives coverage to even out your skin tone. it is similar to a colour lotion. concealer is a thicker cream type product that has more concentrated colour that will cover up imperfections and dark circles and/or discolouration. use foundation to give you a nice even skin tone and then apply concealer to areas that need more pigmentation.

the only way to get foundation and concealer to match is to go to a make up counter and try it on. do not buy it based on a picture since each company has a different formaulation and it is very rare that what you see is what you will get. try it on your jaw line and never on your hand. the jawline is the best place to ensure it will match your face and neck. also, try taking a mirror and looking at it outside of the store to make sure it is natural looking and not distorted by the store lights. you will know it is the right foundation when you cannot see it since it should just blend in. as for the concealer, it should match your foundation or one shade lighter for under the eyes. this is why i like the laura mercier foundation since it comes with two shades so you can match it all over your face.

i know drugstore foundation is cheaper but it really is not if you are constantly buying founbdations that do not match. spend the money on the right one once and it works out to be cheaper. try getting mac oil free foundation as it is a very good foundation that is not much more expensive than the drugstore brands.

'Foundation' is a make-up base that is supposed to cover 'minor irregularities of tone' in your whole face. 'Concealer' is to cover the 'major icky irregularities and should be applied BEFORE you use the foundation. When choosing either, it is best to 'talk to a professional' ... I'd go to any large, reputable store like Macy's or Nordstroms ... or you could go to a 'specialty' store that sells ONLY 'cosmetics and fragrances' and TRY THINGS ON with their help until you have found the right 'color' for you. Or you could just do what I do, and 'go bare faced' and let the world see you as you are with no 'fashion enhancements' ... but I'm guessing that you are quite young and want to 'try out different looks' so just GET PROFESSIONAL HELP at a 'good store' even if you don't buy something there (they'll try to sell it to you, but you can simply say you need time to 'think it over' before you buy) and then go to a 'drugstore' to buy the less expensive stuff that will probably work just as well ...

The only way you can get a perfect match is by trying on samples.

When applying foundation shades, apply them directly on your chin. The skin on your inner wrist and back of your hand is quite different to that of your face. Apply the foundation samples in light "strips" on your chin area and look in the mirror in natural light. The shade that disappears into your skin is the shade that matches you perfectly.

My advise is to get a make up artist to match a foundation for you at a counter like MAC or Stila. Buy the foundation that matches your skin and use that as a guide to buy drugstore brands in the future.

Concealer has a thicker and lighter consistency to foundation. It is used to cover areas on your face which need 'lightening'. For example under your eyes where you may have shadows, beside your nose or where you have spots.

The best way to find the correct colour foundation is to actually put it on your face. If you can find testers in the shops and put a small dab of a few colours next to each other on your forehead, you will find the one that matches your skin best will seem to disappear on your skin.

Good luck.

Really, I think the only way you can really get a good foundation is try it on your face, most think to try it on your wrist, but your wrist color can vary from your face skin color. With concealor you want to go a shade or two lighter because concealor is used to cover dark circles, acne or scars. The diffrence for foundation and concealor is foundation is for the entire face and concealor is for the problem spots.

Try blending a bit of the foundation on the back of your hand.
