have noticed written on toothpaste or shampoo, or soap, or lipstick or cosmetics and stuff like that, there is written something like 12M, or 24M. what does it mean? it couldn't be months, cause some of those things have a warranty for more than an year. it couldn't be metres cause surely a lipstick doesn't have 24 metres. so? please help me. this drives me crazy for many years...

Jules Julie Julia, let it drive you crazy NO MORE!

Bee is actually right. Especially with European cosmetics the 12M or 24M is called the "period after opening." This is the length of time after opening that the product is good for. (12M = 12 months after opening)

Check out this website from the European Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association.... (whew what a mouthful! :-) hope that helps!

(and VERY OBSERVANT of you!) :-)

The warrenty is for more than a year, but 12M or 24M is the "best used by" date, either 12 months or 24 months.

it means months for example if a tube says 12M it means it should either last for 12 months of should be used withing 12 months.

Is it M or ML? The latter could mean milli liter(s), though I doubt that a toothpaste tube could have just 12 or 24 ML (ml).
