Criminals operate outside the law. Banning guns wouldn't stop them from having them.

If those people have an IQ above room temperature then none would believe that. It would be logistically impossible to confiscate even a small percentage of the guns out there or the ammo to go with them. All one has to do is look at States with restrictive gun laws in comparison to those with less restrictive laws. Violent crime rates are higher in states where guns are harder to get.
Why on earth would anyone want to live in a country where only the Police, Military and the politically connected can legally own guns ?

I don't think it would end. It does not take too much of a machine shop to make a gun. There are millions of machine shops around the US. There would be a lot more guns being sold illegally if the legal sale of guns were banned.

Why do criminals use guns? Not because they are legal. Many gun crimes are committed with illegal guns in the first place. They use guns because it gives them an advantage. With a gun, you can kill someone from a distance. With a gun, you can threaten and intimidate easier. So, if you are going to commit crime, then at all costs get a gun. Even if that means buying a gun from illegal sources.

1500 people were shot dead last year legally by US citizens. I dont think some countrys had that figure for illegal murders. Guns are for primitive peoples now as most people solve things through democrocy. Fair enough its in your constitution but that was written hundreds of years ago and should have little meaning today. Fanatics feel the need to arm themselves. You should get rid of this ridiculas right and grow up for once. Imagine if all things written in the past still applied now, the world would be impossible to live in.

And yes your crime rate would go down 10 fold. There is no disputing it. Its fact in every non gun weilding country on earth. Look at Britain and Canada. Even the police are not armed bar a few and they are a lot better police than those in the US ( although it would be great to be a S.W.A.T unit ). By legalising firearms it makes it easier for illegal guns to be shipped in.

This is an naive idea. The criminals don't care if guns are banned. They will get them anyway. The only ones who register their guns are the law-abiding. This process of registering guns was used before in history. Once they registered all their guns Hitler and his cronies knew exactly where to find all the weapons so they could be confiscated so the people had no way to resist him.

Criminals will always be here even if guns are banned. They would find other weapons to use. Knives have been around forever. Clubs even longer. Criminals will be here whether we have guns or not.

The 2nd Ammendment guarantees us the right to bear arms. The gun control crowd would have you believe that being able to serve in the military is your right to bear arms. they always like to leave out part of the 2nd Ammendment. We have the right to bear arms to protect us from tyranny BOTH foreign and domestic. Well if our governemnt is the one who is oppressing us and the government controls the military then who protects us if we don't bear arms ourselves.

You said the magic word, Ben. These boys are passionate about their guns. Yee-haw!

Well, it's all hypothetical. They're NOT going to be banned, but I tell you what I think.

Some people are just stupid (that's why we have the phrase "thinning the herd). They go jogging on deserted, poorly lit trails. They frequent places where there aren't a lot of other people. They continue to live in areas where maybe it would be a good idea to pack up the truck and move to Beverly....Hills that is....

Got carried away, there. Sorry.

Anyway, even if they were packing a concealed gat, a perp is going to sneak up on you anyway and use the element of surprise/ambush. You're not going to get the chance to pull your piece and play Dirty Harry.

He's probably going to take it away from you and pawn it.

But, you know, if packin' makes you feel warm and snuggly, go for it.

For many years, I've been surviving just fine without one, and I've hung with some fairly seedy crowds.

Here's some statistics for y'all:

Wisconsin is among the 10 safest states in the USA regarding crime, and they didn't get there because everyone was armed.

In 2000, Wisconsin ranked 18th in population, but only 37th for crime statistics, with 236 violent incidents per 100,000.

(from the National Education Assn.):

"In a single year, 3,012 children and teens were killed by gunfire in the United States, according to the latest national data released in 2002. That is one child every three hours; eight children every day; and more than 50 children every week.

American children are more at risk from firearms than the children of any other industrialized nation. In one year, firearms killed no children in Japan, 19 in Great Britain, 57 in Germany, 109 in France, 153 in Canada, and 5,285 in the United States."

The odds of being murdered are 18,000 to 1 and the chances of getting colo-rectal cancer are 1 in 26.

It just "makes my day" when some macho man gun enthusiast announces that he doesn't eat vegetables; but lots of red meat. Oh, yeah, he's being "vigilant."

Forget about the guns and eat more broccoli like your mom told you.

That there's funny, I don't care who y'are!!

It would not end because there are so many illegal guns out there, there would be no way to retrieve them all. There would always be guns and people that make them, even if it illegal to do so. How many crimes are commited with guns that are registered to someone or the actual person that did the crime? Most guns used in crimes are stolen or otherwise untraceable.

If guns were banned then crime rates would deffinatly go up!It would be a criminals dream come true. They would be able to do whatever they wanted, rape, kill, rob, alot easier knowing no one could defend themselves.
Law abiding citizens dont kill,Criminals Do!
A gun that just lays around cannot kill, but, put it into evil hands all hell will break loose.
We just need stiffer penalties for those who chose to do evil deeds with or without guns.
Besides,If they banned guns,do YOU think criminals who want to kill would just stop? Maybe we should ban knives,or maybe even automobiles, cause if someone wants to kill bad enough, they will use what ever it takes to get the job done.

The problem isn't guns necessarily. It's lack of education and cuts in education, arts, music, athletics etc in the education system, lack of opportunity, lack of justice and lack of education people that they don't have the right to take a life.
Address the physical and mental needs of the citizens and guns won't be an issue. It's so obvious too other countries who have gun ownership in Canada and Europe, why can't we learn this too?

Even if guns were banned today, our country is already flooded with guns of all types and unfortunately crime would continue.

Criminals always have a way of finding their weapons of choice.

There will always be guns in our society...even if they become illegal. But what I do think would happen is that there would be no more senseless deaths of children who find loaded guns in their homes.

I come from a country that makes private gun ownership illegal...and the crime rate is MUCH lower. Gun related deaths are staggeringly low. And coming from that country, it is hard to understand (aside from the Constitutional Right), why anyone would own a gun...
