You have a few options.
1) Let the battery die down and plug it in to the computer when it wont turn on and the screen is black.
2) Move the hold button back and forth. (it's on the top left)
3) Hold the menu button for 6-10 seconds until the screen comes up.
4) Plug it into the computer.
5) Fuse all the above in this order: 2, 3, 1, 4.
This happened to me last nite, and i was really worried. So i let the battery die down and then tried to turn it on by holding the menu button, while shifting the hold button back and forth. When that did not work, i plugged it into the computer and the screen came right up (black apple icon) and my music was back! i was SO relieved to hear my Deep Treble playing...
(you might just have to hold the middle button and menu button together, this resets it)

There's a little sliding mechanism on the top. Slide it in the other direction. That will unlock it. You should be able to then turn off the light through the settings. If that doesn't work, try locking & unlocking it in the way explained above, then holding play & the select (center) button at the same time.
If that doesn't work, let the batteries drain, then let it charge. If that doesn't work, call Apple.

yeah, same here. hold the center button and menu button for about 6-8 seconds. after it resets plug it into your comp and restore it. it may seem like too much trouble but sometimes a bad file or putting files that were not imported on the same version of itunes can mess up the firmware. by restoring it you reset the firmware and all you have to do is just drag and drop your library back into your ipod (or just let it auto sync).

Let the battery run down. Try that switch on the top if you haven't alreaady- you should not see orange. Then when the battery is completely out, plug it into the computer, and itunes should ask if you want to reset it.

you just gotta let it run out of batteries. if it will work, toggle the lock thingy then hold down menu and the center button at the same time. but if that doesn't work, just let it run down

Your Ipod is locked
Try sliding the lever on the left side of the ipod the opposite way of where it is
That should fix your problem
