I have 4 sons and would like some information on what they will go through durring puberty. I (of course) know all about female puberty, but i'm kind of in the dark about males. My oldest is 11 and will be seeing a video at school about puberty this week. I have no idea what to expect will be happening with him or how to talk with him about things. Can anyone help me to know at what age he's going to be haveing changes happen? Does it really begin as young as 11? Please help me to understand it better so I can be there for him.
Thank you in advance!!

I'm 13 and I think I entered puberty this summer. The first sign will be hair. You'll begin to see hair on their faces and a noticable moustache will grow (facial hair). Its up to him when to shave, but teach him how to do it correctly. He'll also grow pubic hair. The hair will grow around his armpit area, around his penis and scrotum, and around his anus. These places will sometimes stink and become sweaty, so buy deoderant or antiperisperant for them. As he gets older, body hair will cover his stomch and back. At the end of puberty his chest and stomach will be completely covered in hair and some hair may grow around his butt. He'll also notice his voice will crack a little bit and it'll become deeper. He'll also get pimples so buy him a cleansing lotion or something like Noxema. I used it since I was 12 and I have no pimples so it might work for your sons, too. Its possible that his nipples will begin to feel sore and hurt if you touch them and hair may grow around them. That's perfectly normal. His penis and scrotum will also begin to grow. That will usually start first right after hair growth. He'll also begin to have weird feelings for the opposite sex. This will lead to dreams about them in which he may be doing something like having sex or anything else. During his sleep, he will ejaculate sperm because he excited his body in his sleep or just because the body needed to deposit sperm. However, when having a wet dream he may not have a dream at all or he may be doing something in his dream which may not excite him at all! If you see any underwear in the bathroom with yellow stains on it, don't ask him and just wash it. He'll feel very uncomfortable if you ask him about it. Throughout puberty, sperm will develop in his testes which is the main effect of puberty. Its possible your son already has sperm or is developing. He'll also question himself if he's gay because of a dream, confusing feelings, or the urge to see someone else's penis. At this age, boys become curious about their body and may want to compare their body, too.

It would make your sons feel more comfortable if a male talked to them, like their father. If he isn't part of your family, then I'm sorry for bringing it up.

Anyways, you must be careful about your sons and the computer. Try your best to keep them away from harmful sites like porn. It will truly mess their minds up so explain to them it is very bad and immoral. Throughout puberty, your sons may want to look at porn so make sure they don't.

Your sons will also be uncomfortable about their body. They may be shy to strip their clothing off in the locker rooms or becoming naked and showering. The reason they're uncomfortable is because some boys may be at a different stage in puberty. They may have a larger penis or testes than someone else or someone may have more body hair. This often leads to bullying and teasing so watch your sons' behaviors.

Most boys enter puberty at 11-13, but for some it may happen even as young as 8! It usually ends around 18 years of age, but it could go one until they're 22. Since you have four sons, you'll notice that they'll grow more closer together since they're going through the same things and may ask each others questions. The younger ones will probably look up to your oldest son. Make sure though that try to be as close to them as possible and don't let their be a barrier between you guys. They need you the most through puberty and your guidance.

People confuse the terms puberty and adolescences. Puberty in males occurs when they develop sperm cells. This happens quickly (maybe over a summer). Most likely your 11 year old has already completed puberty. Adolescnece is the development of secondary sex characteristics (growth in height, changes in body proportion, hair grow, etc.). Adolescence occurs after puberty and may continue until he's around 21. (Actually males don't get their full beards til their mid-30's). This is the toughest time for boys.

At the beginning of puberty there is a surge of testosterone and the testes develop. This normally occurs from ages 10 to 13 in boys (yet some as early as 9). Afterward, testosterone and growth hormone fluctuate from high to low causing dramatic change, then slow changes as a boy becomes a man. During these periods many boys are embarassed about their bodies since all their friends are at different levels of development; some boys will look like their 8 while others will look like their 16. Boys can become quit aggressive a times thus they "show off" so that no one will question their manhood. They often do this with daring stunts (that can be dangerous), or maybe just change their looks with muscle building (weights lifting), clothing, etc.
Sexual interests also develop, leading to boys experimenting with themselves and even on others (opposite or same sex).

During this time boys are unsure of themselves, and constantly need encouragement. It also is extremely important for a young male to have a good adult male role model that will train him to control the compulsive feelings that he has during adolescences so that he will use his extra energy to do good and not harm.

There are a lot of great books out there. I recommend you read Dr. Dobson's book called "Bring up Boys;" it will be a great help to you when times get tough. And they will so be prepared. Hope this Helps!

Best advice I can give as a guy--your sons won't really want you to be there for them for the most part; puberty is a personal experience, and very embarrassing at times for all guys. Not sure anyone would want to share a lot of stuff with their mom--maybe their dad if he is in the picture, if not, then maybe you need to bring in a trusted male friend or relative they can be told to talk to when they have questions, otherwise they will end up on this forum and get all kinds of bad info.
Do expect them to become distant, more private; easily embarrassed and if they start losing socks or underwear, don't question them, just replace it. Don't fuss too much when they stay in the shower or bathroom a long time--alone time again. With several brothers, the older ones will seek privacy to get in touch with themselves, do some personal experimentation and exploring of their own anatomy.

It does not regularly start at 11. i personally started at 12. i am now almost 15. He will have a lot of DESIRES in the future. He just will probably learn that he will grow hair in different places. That sperm will be ejaculated. Also, through the fact that the hormones will run wild and that sooner or later he will want to have sex with girls.

Well i started puberty at about 11 (now 15), he will learn about hormones, semen, body changes, etc. Boys can start puberty anywheres from 10 to maybe even 18(in a very rare scenario), its all about your genetic makeup.

Well i was too ebarrass to discuss this matter with my parents, i think i started puberty at age 13? now 16. If you dont wanna discuss the sex part of puberty, just discuss the kool part, like his voice will get manlier (lower) and he will naturally develope some upper body strength and broad shoulders.

kids these days are starting puberty earlier than normal. For me, It was 13 (Junior High) when I started to change. His voice might "crack" as it matures (completely normal), also armit and pubic hair growth, some facial hair, growth spurts, more sweating (deorderants come in handy during puberty), acne, also mood swings, He might want to be alone more. it is all part of the growing process, it is good to give them some alone time.
