north america. its a 5 men bonus with 3 borders to protect and room for exansion (a.k.a - south america) where you can gain another 2 men bonus while maintaining 3 border states.

Once here, you can attack Ireland to prevent someone from holding Europe, you can attack Congo? (sorry, board is not in front of me) to prevent someone from taking Africa. And Katchakazystan (or w/e) to prevent someone from controlling Asia. That leaves Australia as the only other continent someone can control.

Actually its continents to obtain. The easieat to defend is Austrailia. Second is South America. Third is Africa. then North Ameria. Europe and Asia are similar in difficulty. If you own a continent at the beginning of your turn, you get more reinforcements. Place them at the entrance point of your continent in the beginning. Later at the edge of your territories, or where you need to attack from.
Part of the trick is not to spread to far. Also try to obtain one property past the continent you are defending. They can only move three into a conqured country when they attack you on their next turn. Make sure you conquer a country every turn so you get a card. Use your matches well.

What country to take over first depends on what you get at the start of the game, and in reality, it is the continent that matters. Often times the best thing to do (if you get two or more there) is to take over Australia. Doing so gets you the following: 2 extra armies on every turn you hold it; it makes it harder for someone to get it from you as there is only one way in and out (via Siam) so if someone takes Australia they can't move their armies out on the same turn. It also helps you push into Asia, which has a lot of space to conquer

I think it is the continent and not just a country. My tactic is to try to get North America first because it gives you 5 armies per turn with only 3 borders to defend against attack. Europe is impossible to capture first. South America is not worth it and Asia is also very difficult. I also view Africa and Australia as low benefit in the early stages of the game.

I try to take over any countries that are near me when the cards are past out. I like Australia, because it's easy to get the whole continent. But I also like to try to get Europe.

There is no one best because it depends on which ones you get on the draw. Try to get one of the smaller continents first, because they are easier to control. A lot of people Like Australia or aftica because they are small and don't have a lot of points of attack.

Australia is the easiest to capture and hold, assuming you have a foothold nearby, because there is only one way in to the continent. North America is the best balance, with 5 armies and only 3 borders.
