He's training you :-) Fun, isn't it.
Unfortunately, you have to let the dog in and out. But probably not 18 times a day. You have to figure out when it is a necessary trip, and when it is not, and don't let him out if he is asking just because he is bored or something like that. You have to train him to do something else if he is bored. You need to provide him with enough toys and activities and you have to interact with him enough so he isn't bored.

I have the same problem! The dog is training you when you should be training the dog. Put him on a schedule and stick to it. Start easy, like going out regularly every 2 hours or so. My dog can tell time..when I tell him I will go out with him in 5 minutes, he goes and lays down then comes back in 5 minutes and tries again.

thats funny, I'd probably just make him stay out for awhile, (after making sure he has all neede areas met such as food water etc).
But it sounds like in a sense he's playing games with you. So show him your now playing- make him go out for atleast an hour then let him in. After that if he wants to go out, maybe go play outside with him. Its either he is a jerk or wants some attention???

ever watch the show "the dog whisperer?" just leave your door open or get a doggy door and let your dog decide when to go out.

i say, get a doggy door. then you dont have to bother with getting up to let the dog in or out. it can just halp itself to which enviroment it chooses.
