As an employer, I don't really care if someone is keeping an eye on the job market. Their info. helps keep me and my business current and on par. If its a good employee I'd counteroffer, if its an OK employee - well that their choice.

When this occurs employers feel that they are getting the short end of the stick. I don't know why...............

One of the biggest expences to any company is the training of a new employee. Also, if your employee is searching for a new job they're probably talking it over with their co-workers and that can bring morale down. I have caught people looking up new jobs while they're on the clock and that is just not what their being payed to do.

Some employers feel that if an employee is looking for another job he/she is not performing their job at his place to their potential. The employer feels the worker is not putting all the effort that is being paid for at the present time and the workers thinking of the new job and not the one he/she has now.

You obviously don't care about hiring costs and the true cost of retention. Every time someone leaves your company you have to hire someone new and train them. This costs money. Employees leave for a variety of reasons. Career development/growth and a good working environment are at the top of the list.

you basically answered your own question..if they're a good employee then you don't want to lose him but if they are a bad or OK employee you don't care as much
