It looks like it's related to the name of the lake, Ness. Once you make "Nessie" out of that, you go the next step to "it must be female." With reptiles, there's no obvious male/female difference anyway, to other than experts. In humans and similar, there's an
obvious difference, which "liberals" seem anxious to obliterate.
That's where the fantasy comes in.

Well they know that the Loch Ness monster "Nessie" was secretly dating the Lake Champlain monster "Champ" (in Vermont). They got this info from some text messages sent back and forth. However, "Nessie" never paid her cell phone bill and it got cut off, so now she doesn't show herself on Loch Ness because of the bill collectors (who ain't afraid of anything).
