say you had a fully cycled ready to go 55 gallon tank, what would you put in it and in what order?

why would I be blonde? I want to get input on what type of fish I should put in my 55 gallon tank. It will be ready for fish in 2 weeks and I want to know what you all think would be good in a 55 gallon.

You can have a nice variety of fish but you have to figure out some basic things first. Do you want community fish or aggressive fish? Obviously you have to keep them seperated. if you want community, which will give you more options, you'll be able to choose from guppies, platies, tetras, danios, rasboras, swordtails and various others, also keep in mind most of the aforementioned types have a large variety of different shapes, sizes and colors. Try to find fish that will feed from different levels in the tank. Guppies, swords and platies will feed from the top, most tetras will feed from the middle and you can throw in a pleco or an oticinclus or a snail for bottom grazing. Best advice is to go to a pet store and tell them you need starter, community fish. If you tank has never had any fish in it please don't go buy 40 fish and plop them in. Start with 10 at the most and test the tank for a week or two before adding anymore. If the cycle is stable then go ahead and add more gradually.

The previous poster makes a good point.

Do you have anything in mind at all? Lots of small fish? A few medium ones? One or two larger ones? How are you decorating the tank? Will you have lots of decoration and plants (real or fake) or will it be more bare? Are you looking for the common varieties or something a little more unique? There's a million things you can do, but nobody can tell you what you like.

I really like livebearers (mollies, platys, swordtails, guppies) I also really like Danios (giant Danios are fun to watch swim. They're really fast and a pain to catch though)

Tetras are cool as well. Diamond tetras are pretty when they're older. I agree if you choose tetras, five at a time, schools of 15 would be really nice...just make sure you don't get tiny tetras and bigger other fish.

Honey sunset gouramis are cool, I haven't had trouble with them being aggressive....but that doesn't mean you don't have to watch the behavior of any fish you put in there (they all have personalities and while they may not 'usually' be aggressive, there are exceptions)

Live bearers, I would say 2 or 3 (or more) females per male (if you decide to have males...because if you do, they spit out babies like crazy). Add them maybe four at a time. You don't want to add too many fish at once.

Danios, I would say five at a time as well. schools of 10-15 would be really nice. The more the merrier as long as you don't overcrowd your tank. (1 adult size inch per gallon)

And a bamboo shrimp! I love those guys.

when i had my 55 fresh before i gave it to my best Friend i had 10 cardinal tetras 10 diamond tetras 10 black skirts 1 royal pleco added last about 3-4 months after i started then 1 gold nugget pleco 2-3 months after that 4 green bronchus i had 4 large pieces of grape vine wood and 2 large pieces of Malaysian bog wood 1 spotted raphael cats i had other tetras too. i think i had 10 bleeding heart tetras. i also had 1 amazon sword and a bunch of anubias of different species and java fern. after awhile your fish will learn too fallow you around hoping for food but you must refrain from feeding more than once a day cuz youll over feed and coz your tank balance to go out of wack. i kept the pH at about 6.5-7 and alittle on the acidic side.

I would do either an asian biotope with 25 cherry barbs, a dwarf gourami, and 10 kuhlie loaches

or

An amazon biotope with 25 neon tetras, a 1 male and 2 female german blue rams, and 8 ottocinclus catfish.

Ok, leave an open question and all you will get are crappy answers. Why not pick an initial centerpiece fish you like and we can go from there?

you should put koi, they are really happy fish, and love to stay active but the down side is they tend to poop alot, but if u feed them less then they will poop less lol. or u can opt for tropical fish, liek angel fish, they like quiet peaceful warm waters so u shud buy a heater as well to go with ur tank and also a filter. thats a pretty big tank so any kind of fish would do well.

I would get 5 angelfish (one white, one black, one zebra, one gold, and one leopard) and a school of 15 cardinal tetras or rummy-nosed tertas, and a bushy-nosed pleco :D
I'd put the tetras in first, 5 a week, and then I'd put the angelfish in one or two per week or every other week.
