I had an intestinal infection over the weekend and when they were checking my blood pressure and heartbeat they said my heart was unually high (120 beats with no activity). They gave me 3 bags of fluids. At the end of this whole thing my heart rate was still 115. My blood pressure was low but that is not unusual for me. Has anyone experienced high heart rate with pregnancy? Does increased heart rate imply multiple births?

I am just concerned about my pregnancy. I am 7 weeks along and whenever I mention it they do not seem concerned. They just wamted to replace my electolytes and thats about it. They didnt check heartbeat or anything. I have my first OBGYN appt on Wednesday so I hope they will check then

I have/had this issue!!! My heartrate was in the 120-130s while resting when I was pregnant! They thought they had the baby's heartrate! I had a complete workup by a cardiologist including a 24 hour holter monitor and they decided it was just the increase in hormones that made my heart rate go up. Everything was fine, just one baby, beautiful and healthy who is now 2.

Oddly enough, it never went away for me. They said it's a common thing and that most times it does. :)

I was about 16 weeks pregnant and had a viral infection. My heartbeat did speed up and my baby is fine we're 28 weeks and 3 days now. Some say in an old wives tale the faster the heart beat your going to have a boy. And my son is very active in me. There is times I feel out of breath because he moves so much. As far as them giving you fluids your body is going threw changes and you should get on a prenatal vitamin it helps.

That sounds like a very high heart rate, but I am guessing it was probably due to the intestinal infection. If the doctors didn't think it was a problem, then you also shouldn't worry about it.

If your heartbeat (pulse) is still that high in a few days, you should probably get a few more tests to rule out other problems, such as overactive thyroid. Why don't you check your pulse tomorrow morning, before you get out of bed, and see if it is still that high. Be sure to tell your OB-GYN about your concerns when you see him on Wednesday. In the meantime, don't worry, I am sure everything is fine.

You need to tell the doc everything when you see him. They couldn't have checked the heartbeat of the baby at 7 weeks via Doppler. Your doc will probably do an ultrasound.
I've had a high heart rate with my last pregnancy following a flu epidemic, hopefully that's all it was.

Good luck and let us know what the ob says

It seems to be normal. Even MY doctor isn't concerned about it, and he's conservative enough to make Rush Limbaugh look like Dennis Rodman.

I've been having it for the entire pregnancy, so far (23 weeks), and it sucks. Apparently, though, it's nothing to be concerned about.

If it continues, or is accompanied by pain, though, seeing a cardiologist won't hurt to, if nothing else, put your mind at ease.

If the doctors aren't panicking, then don't panic. Your blood flow increases when you're pregnant, so your heart has to work harder to pump all that blood through you and baby. It can effect your heart rate and blood pressure. Stay calm. You'll be fine.

Increased heartrate is very common in pregnancy as your body has more blood to move around; that is most likely why the doctor wasn't concerned.

I do believe it is very normal for your heart rate to increase while pregnant. As far as them listening to babies heartbeat it is way too soon for them to hear that...in most cases you don't hear it until you are 12 weeks.
