It should have ended on the 26th. People are too lazy to change it.

Most American Flags in my area having been put at half mast ever since "9-11", and they have remained since we are still "at war". And some areas do it for soliders passed in the war. Otherwise, the flags are half mast due to the death of President Ford, and are done for 30 days.

Well, private citizens are not required to fly the flag at half mast if they did not want to. I think that governement buildings with a flag are following an order to do so, though. That order had a time period in which it was to be flown at half mast. Probably not the end of the time period yet. If it was 30 days, then that should have expired on Jan 25th or so.

What I don't get is, when I drove by McDonald's, they had the American flag at half mast, but they ALSO had the McDonald's flag (the little yellow one with the McDonald's logo on it) flying at half mast- below it, at least.

Shouldn't they just take the logo flag down for the duration of the mourning period? It's like they're saying,"And Ronald's sad, too!"

No, the national period of mourning has ended, and flags can be returned to full-staff.

However, many places continue to fly them at half-staff in mourning still. Still other places have their flags at half-staff for reasons other then President Ford. Some are half-staff because of a fallen soldier, or a local politician, recognised citizen, or other person who may need to be honoured.

Hope this helps. Have a great day.

The flag flies half-staff for 30 days after a Presidential death. On day 31, it should be taken up to full staff.

Yep. The period of National Mourning for someone of President Ford's stature is 30 days. As such, the flags are flown at half staff on government buildings throughout that period.

This is a fantastic question! My friends and I were discussing that earlier this morning! One said it was to be flown at half mass for a month after the death.
