Unfortunatly, the processors in laptops CANNOT be upgraded as the are not mounted in sockets, but soldered directly to the mainboard in order to save space. It seems that a few people have not realised that you are refering to a portable machine.
But all is not lost. Even though you are unable to change your CPU, there are ways to boost your machines performance. Firstly you can increase your RAM. 704mb may seem like a lot, but nowadays, it really isn't that much. You machine can Handle a maximum of 2GB of RAM. This increases the speed of you machine by minimising the amount of virtual ram the system needs. Virtual RAM is hard-drive space, and as the hard-drive is many thousands of times slower than chip RAM, obvious performance gains can be had by reducing the computers need to use it. Be advised that you machine only has 2 memory slots. So an upgrade would mean replacing the chips you already have. But you could always stick the old ones on Ebay.
The second way is by replacing your hard-drive. Your laptop will have shipped with a 2.5inch, 40Gb 5400rpm drive, connected on a serial ATA-150 interface. If you were to upgrade to a 7200rpm drive your data read/write speeds would increase. Also, if your drive is approaching capacity, extra storage would also boost your system performance.
The last option available to you is to keep your Operating System well maintained. Dump your trash, keep your caches clear, use msconfig to keep things up to date, keep a close check on your registries. This will keep you computer running at full speed, as well as helping to pervent other potential problems.
Any one of these three solutions will speed up your laptop, but if you do all three, you will max out the potential of your machine, and have a significant performance gain.
Regards A.

Won't be compatible to Celeron M, each motherboard is specifically designed to handle a particular sized RAM, and Processor, I think changing it to Celeron M will work only if you are willing to Shell out for the motherboard to be changed. My suggestion if you think the pc is slow, go for a new one, as you certainly do need an upgrade :) Hope this helps

You need to know the socket type of your processor (939 etc etc) the socket type will be the ultimate factor in what you can use...
please note that a processor change can be a bit of a delicate procedure with a couple other componants requiring replacement as well (Fan, heat sink ((and sometimes power))

buy an intel core 2 duo processor. really good for laptops coz they are less power consuming and the fastest out there at the mo! increase your ram to about 2g should be ample after that it will work like lighting. but make sure your motherboard supports it. the best thing to do is type into google your computer model name along with upgrade. you will find sites with parts specially for it. good luck

You need more ram then another CPU - buy 1 Gb RAM.
Change you HDD >> 100GB
Buy a PCMCA card for hi speed wireless network adapter.
That;s all you can do.

most of the time you can't just get a faster processor to put in your motherboard because the motherboard will not suport a fast processor. you may just ned to get a faster computer.
if you wnat things to work faster, make sure you don't have a bunch of backround programs running, make sure you don't ahve viruses and spyware and so forth

...... go to YAHOO SEARCH and type in toshiba retailer's or wholesaler's..... Then look for your model and processor upgrade's.... They should be able to tell you, the highest processor up you can go.... You could also go to YAHOO SEARCH and type in toshiba and it's model no. then look for the processor section, and see what upgrades they advise.... Im pretty sure you can put in bigger processors, so you should be able to check that out on one of those site's....

Overclock the processor and buy as much RAM as you can afford. That'll speed it right up.

it all depends on what the mother board of the laptop can handle cuz most laptops are built to specific properties and cannot be changed
