Contrary to the two previous answers, the United States did in fact lose the war in Vietnam. And Jane Fonda had virtually nothing to do with it.

The United States lost in Vietnam for the same reason it is has lost Iraq -- because it entered into the war without any real idea of what it was getting into.

MIlitarily, the United States performed well. With the notable exception of Tet, most US military options in Vietnam went well.
The problem was that Vietnam was in a civil war (same as Iraq is now), and that in a civil war, there are only two choices for those in-country: win or die. Since the Viet Cong were prepared to make enormous sacrifices to win, it was a virtually unwinnable situation, especially after 1968.

The only way the United States could have avoided losing the Vietnam War was to have ended US participation in 1965.
South Vietnam would have eventually fallen to the Communists, probably around 1970 or so, but at a far smaller cost in terms of American lives and capital.

There was no goal.

Same as Iraq now. There was no threat from Vietnam to the United States. There was never a threat to the United States from Iraq either.

It's all political crap. Scare tactics start these wars. They are fought just for the purpose of fighting them, not to gain anything by them.

US did not lose the war. it was a stalemate type thing. nobody got anything out of it. a waste of time and a waste of people. It could have been avoided if people learn from the past and try to avoid war more. people die, its not a game of chess

Liberal traitors like Jane Fonda convinced the American government that we were losing. They lied, and as a result millions of people were murdered by communists after we left.
This could have been prevented if traitors like Jane Fonda would have been properly punished for their crimes against America.
