I'm assuming these are exponents.
I will use the symbol, ^ , for exponents.
1) (-217)^1
Anything raised to the first power is just that original number.
= -217

2) (3/5)^2
Square the top number and square the bottom number.
= 3^2 / 5^2
= 9/25

3) (1/5)^-2
Flip the fraction to make the exponent positive.
= (5/1)^2
5/1 is the same thing as 5
= 5^2
= 5*5 = 25

4) 32^(1/5)
32 can be written as 2^5
= (2^5)^(1/5)
Multiply exponents.
= 2^(5*1/5)
= 2^1
= 2
