A tall fence will help deflect road noise, inside the house there are ways to soundproof walls but require refinishing of the walls.

Installing dual pane windows will go a long way to reducing the noise from passing cars inside the house. Outside is pretty tough to do without actually building a sound wall...very expensive.

Perhaps you can plant some trees or thick bushes between the house and the side of the street. Insulated windows will help a lot also, if the house doesn't have them yet. if you need the windows but aren't loaded with money just replace the bigger windows on the side of the house facing the traffic.

If you have cars on the road inside your house I would suggest moving.
