Some of my "wall stains" include dirty fingerprints, spattered food emblems, courtesy of my toddler, hairspray, and others. I have tried Mr. Clean eraser, windex, and several general cleaners. All of these take the paint off!! Help, I have a new house!

My honest, experienced, mom of 4 kids opinion is this:
Repaint.
Seriously repaint with a washable paint. So much easier and in the long run you'll waste a lot less time painting than you are trying to clean up. Short of that and depending on what color your walls are (if they're a white base, etc) I would put a little Chlorox in very warm water and take an old toothbrush to the stain) But take my advice esp. with kids --- repaint in a washoff paint (ask at Lowe's or Menards)

flat paint should only be cleaned with a damp sponge, never a rag or paper towel. you should just use water, maybe a little dish detergent, and that is it. anything more than that, and like you said, it will take the paint off
Now, the bad news. you said "new house" most new construction painters use the absolute CHEAPEST paint they can possibly find. this means that the paint is NOT washable. you will be better to touch it up. call the builder, they may be able to get you a touch up kit from the painter, if not, they should at least be able to tell you what brand/color, etc of paint was used. then buy paint and touch it up. that is the only advantage of flat, it should touch up VERY will.

Good luck
