Spread out your stops, moderate accelration (not too long so you get into high gear quickly, but not real quick either), and your ideal cruising speed is around 45 or 50 miles an hour. This is about as slow as you can go and remain in your top gear, which will give you the best milage. Also avoid excessive idling and there is no need to warm up modern car engines on cold mornings - it only waste gas on todays engines (but I must admit that climbing into a nice warm car on a cold morning is nice).

Buy a car that doesn't use as much gas. I drive a Toyota Echo and I'm one of the few people on this planet that can actually put $5 worth of gas in my car and have it amount to anything.

There, now we got that out of the way. I know what you meant--so here's my tips to save gas---no fast starts and stops, dont jam on the gas when you accellerate and have your car tuned up regularly.

If you have cruise control then use it whenever you can.
Make sure you have your oil changed when it needs it, not doing so can lag down your engine-making it work harder and use more gas.
The faster you go over the speed limit the more gas you will use, so keep down the speed.
Using your air conditioner does not use as much gas as driving with your windows down.
Hope this tips help.

You could take your foot off the gas when you're going down hills. If you stop anywhere for a few minutes or more, turn the car off. Don't use the AC. Put a can of dry gas in everytime you fill your tank. Don't make unnecessary trips.
