Ray's In the City, 240 Peachtree St SW, Atlanta Gift Mart, Atlanta, GA 30303 · 404-524-9224

I ate there with friends twice in one weekend back in November. The place has great atmosphere and the seafood is even better. If it's real crowded with a lengthy wait for a table, ask to be seated at the oyster bar. I had crab cakes on evening and they were terrific. The other evening I had fresh grouper with a horseradish crust - mmmmm.

Happy dining!

Atlanta has many different restaurants in many different styles. If you are after a specific type of food, stay away from chains, except the Varsity as mentioned above as the original is really a unique experience. If you want Italian in Atlanta, you will be hard pressed to find real Italian food. Veni, Vidi, Vici isn't bad, but certainly way too much for real Italian food. Someone mentioned Gladys Knight's place and that is actually very good and very reasonable and another unique experience (soul food). Barbecue is great at Fat Matt's Rib Shack and they have great live music! There are 2 really good Brazilian/Argentinian steakhouses, Fuego De Chao and Fires of Brazil! Bones is an excellent Steak place for American fare, but again too expensive. Imperial Fez is one of the best Moroccan places in the US. Tamarind is excellent Thai food, but expensive. Canoe and Ray's on the River are both excellent! The Ritz-Carlton in Buckhead is top-notch as well. Raja's in Buckhead has good Indian food as does the Bombay Grille which is hotter and probably more authentic. The Havana Sandwich has good quick Cuban sandwiches for lunch. There are many Chinese and Korean and Vietnamese places on Buford Highway, as well as Mexican, El Salvadorian and Guatamalan foods. The Buford highway area is called the international village. Atlanta seriously lack good Deli food, but there are some decent places in the Toco Hills area and also near Emory University as well. No Polynesian food. Thai Diner is also good, but not near downtown. The Buckhead diner is overpriced, but always reasonably good. Lots of people like Dante's down the Hatch, but I didn't care for it. The Flying Biscuit Cafe is good for Breakfast. For seafood, Try Atlanta Fish Market! expensive but excellent!!
Some areas in Atlanta can be a little dangerous after dark, but the Virginia -Highlands area has several good places like Murphy's and Surin Thai, and some college bars as well. Walk around at night it is fun there. Unfortunately Greek places don't do well in Atlanta except for Athens Pizza Kouzzina. It isn't the best Greek food, but it can stay open and it isn't bad. Good Luck!

Edit I forgot about Sotto Sotto Best real Italian in Atlanta, but Darker st... mentioned it and I agree that it is good

Atlanta Fish Market
Ray's on the River
Veni Vidi Vinci
Twist
Village Tavern (chain)

It really depends what you are looking for and how much you want to spend. A lot of good chain restaurants too, but if you are looking for one of a kind, try those.

Try the Cheescake Factory or the Spaghetti Factory in Buckhead for something elegant and fun. Also, you could go to Dave and Busters and eat, play billiards, arcade, and its pretty nice. Anyone under 25 needs a chaperone though.
