My wife is an animal lover...we have 3 cats and take care of ferals in the neighborhood.
Today, she read on the news that they killed the horse known as Barbaro.
Since hearing the news, my wife has left work early and is crying her eyes out at home... I'm talking pure hysteria here!!!
I'm obviously not leaving work early to comfort her as she cries for a horse she had no personal contact with at any point in her life...
Now, she is looking to donate money to a foundation to help horses (a big waste of money in my mind)
What can I do to snap her out of this? She shouldn't be crying over any animal, let alone a horse who had a good life (I mean, this horse won the kentucky derby, I'm sure it had all the privilidges in life including money, fame and female horses)

Tell her that her life REALLY must be good if she's gonna cry over adamn dead horse! If she wants to cry about something, cry about all the little black (and white) kids in the ghetto who don't have enough to eat. Cry about our president wantonly throwing away our brave men and women's lives in this farce of a war. Cry about the fact that there's STILL racism in 2007! Cry about the fact that some men believe it is perfectly okay to hit women! Cry about the spread of AIDS! Cry about global warming! Cry about the fact that teachers don't make enough money!! Cry about the divorce rate being over 50 percent!! Cry about the fact that horse had BETTER health care than poor people will EVER get!
But most of all, cry over the fact that we as a country have burned bridges with basically every other country in the world!
There. I've given the wife PLENTY of things to cry about.
You're welcome.
F*** Barbaro.

send her some flowers. write a card and show her you are sympathetic to her feelings, feelings. But put your foot down on the money. (come on!) Maybe explain to her when you are home.that you see she is obviously feeling bit overwhelmed buy this death of this great horse, but that is life. especially an animal, that's life is on a constant thin line of heath and death.. that is the way of a race horses life. It should not financially affect your lives!!! ask her to take a step back and let the pain go... then hand her a anew puppy. if anything you will be her hero..

My first reaction would be to tell her to get a life.....crying over some else's g0damned horse?!! Jeez... IT'S A HORSE! Sorry and Good Luck give her a few days to calm down and donate $50 to the horse charity
The horse was in pain with little no chance of getting better - why the poor animals misery?

Your wife is extremely sensitive perhaps alarmingly so. Try to put the life of Barbero in some perspective. As tragic his demise may have been everyday there are injuries and deaths to animals. Even humans as is the case in Iraq,we should not mourn his demise but celebrate the life he is enjoying free from pain in the afterlife.

Just give her time and stop being such a jerk by dismissing her feelings! Granted she might be taking it a little out of proportion, but who are you to say what anyone should or shouldn't feel about something?
Now if she wants to donate money, that depends on what you already have worked out financially... if she wants to donate some of her own money without upsetting the family budget, that is her choice.

Your wife sounds like a caring, compassionate woman. And you sound like a selfish, controlling pr*ck. Give your wife a little space and respect, huh pal.
Barbaro's been fighting for 8 months now. The horse clearly wanted to live, but it just wasn't in the cards. he knew what was going on all the time and I'm sure that's what's hitting your wife. Instead of trying to control her reaction, why not shut your pie hole and hold her until she feels better you jerk.

i'm going through the same thing as her but i'm hiding from everyone. just let her grieve and do a search on animal/pet grievance counseling where you can find much good info on human reactions to this sort of thing. she'll get over it.

Your wife sounds nutty. Stop by the Wal-Mart on the way home and buy her a plastic horse to put on the fire-place mantle. This will keep her comfortable until bedtime.

your insensitivity will get u no where. your wife is an animal lover, just because u don't share her love doesn't mean u can't be sensitive about it. as marriage is suppose to be based on compassion, just because u don't feel the same about the horse, doesn't mean u can't agree with her and how she is feeling about it.

She is who she is, there is nothing you can do to change that.... but slip her a percocet... the when she calms down offer to send a bit of money to this foundation, it will help comfort her in knowing that she has helped contributed to helping save a life.
and that "WineBoy" has it... take his advise!
