I am planning on getting an extra electrical socket installed in my room, because there currently is only one. How much would this usually cost for an electrician to install it? What is the process of doing so? Thanks!

To add, there is no basement below, but there is a closet right next to the wall I want it installed in.

Electricians *should* charge somewhere in the neighborhood of 40-65 per hour. Accessibility for wiring, wall materials, distance to another outlet, condition of existing electrical and so forth can all play a role in determining the cost. The cheapest would probably be to have a surface mounted wall conduit run to a surface box from another outlet, but that is not too attractive.

running an additional socket is not that hard if there is access to thwe area below the wall you want to put it on as in a basement or crawl space- if you are adding a socket on a second floor wall- it is a bit more difficult. Electricians charge by the hour. If it is an easy set up a, about 1 1/2 hours to install. If there is no access- double that.

Instead of breaking your piggy bank, if you know of a construction sight nearby, visit it and look for an electrical company vehicle and find the electrician and see if hes interested in doing a side job. Cost for sidejob around $25.00 per hour, a whole lot less than involving a company and is just as good.

Electricians charge by-the-hour, but their work will be "up to code." You could do it yourself, if you how, but make sure the work could pass an inspection if you ever had to have your house inspected for any reason.
