I agree with the first poster. If she is able too have a part time job and still be financially stable. That way she can have a job where she can drop her children off to school in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. On the other hand I believe that the man should also have the option to stay home if he wants to. I don't think it nesscesarily needs to be the mother just someone to be with the children when no one is home.

Well everyone's lives are different. With us, it made more sense for my wife to stay at home then to work. why?

1. Kids are raised the way we want them to be raised.
2. Kids are safer at home.
3. Day care is expensive
4. I work 2 jobs and make more than her.

Some may not agree, but to me this seems like a healthy household....besides, my wife doesnt need to work to look for "sanity" because we have certain days where we go and do our own thing. For example on Friday evenings, my wife may go out with my sister in law or a friend for a couple hours just to take a breather....

There are so many grey areas to this debate that it can't be black or white. I have to work and I have an 8 month old son. Yes I want to stay home with him but it isn't possible to do so. Some women are able to and that's great. It really depends on what works for every family.

It's not something that has a right or wrong answer either way.

It's not as simple as that. It depends on many factors and therefore there isn't one pat answer for everyone.

Finances?

Interest? If a person isn't interested in staying home, it's not healthy for the kids. Likewise, if going to work is very rewarding, this can have beneficial effects on the kids.

By the way, it's not a question about "women" but of "parents." Some men are excellent care-givers and some women are lousy.

I think that once the children start kindergarten, it's time to go back.

If the woman doesn't work, it's very difficult to convince the daughters that they should be educated, independent and have a career, and I think these are really important for modern women. If a woman gets in a bad marriage, having a good income gives her options.

I believe that a woman should be at home with her kids and let the significant other do the weekly work. The woman should be at home taking care of the children and house. BUT, I also believe that a weekend part time job to keep her sanity is okay. I have five children that I stay home with during the week and my husband works during the week, but I have my Friday night that I waitress and some Saturdays, just to keep my sanity, and to "get away." Mom's understand the need to get away!

Sometimes a woman would love to stay with their kids after they are born up to 5 years old but....some women don't have a choice anyways. I am not talking about single women at all...I am talking about two parent families where dad is still there. More people have their kids in daycare and as long as you find the right daycare that has your value's your kids will be fine.

it depends. if financially you can stay home then go for it!! but i would rather women work to support their children than to get the government and my tax dollars to do it while they sit on their butts at home. i am a working mother and i think that it is best that i do what i have to to make sure and set a good example for my children.you just have to balance thats all.

Some women have to for the money, there is no hard and fast rule and as long as you have good childcare there is no reason not to, although working part time only is the best option, you know wether your child is happy and cared for enough so dont worry and dont let anyone make you feel guilty if you work.

I am a mom to a 4yr old boy. I've worked full time ever since he was 8mths. I think women can work if they have kids. You just have to know how to separate your family from work and make sure you spend a lot of time with the kids. I wish I didn't have to work though. I would love to be home when my son's school bus dropped him off.
