The Athlon 64 3800+ is the better performer. Celerons are budget processors and shouldn't be used for gaming - though, they are highly overclockable. Also, two 7600gts in SLI perform almost exactly like a 7900GT. Why not just get that?

You should get the AMD with one video card, but get a 7900 series rather than a 7600. Two 7600GTs in SLI is about equivalent to a 7900GT alone.

They are both important factors. The CPU still processes instructions. The GPU does not replace this function. If you have an awesome graphics card, but a crap CPU - you're going to have one hell of a bottleneck. Then, you'll be frustrated when your system doesn't perform like it should. Granted, the CPU doesn't hold as much bearing over gaming performance as it used to, but it's still a significant factor.

AMD... intels are a bit cheaper, but don't have the quality Athlons do.
