They've been fighting for so long in the Middle East I sometimes wonder if they remember the initial offense.

In "South Pacific" one of the lines was "you have to be taught to hate." Think about it. Have you ever seen a group of babies or toddlers, all races and ethnicity, they play together because they don't know they haven't yet learned that they are not to associate with whoever.

Children of these countries are taught from birth to hate a certain group. Parents can't wait until their children can become suicide bombers. What kind of madness is this?

The shia's dont hate the sunnis the sunnis hate the shia's. The shia's would have the right to hate the sunnis because the sunnis caused so much destruction in Iraq.

The Shia believe in Ali, supposely the last prophet of Islam. Sunni do not. It evidently worth killing for. Notice Hamas and Hzbollah do not join sides against Israel. During the war in the summer they both had their own fronts against Israel and were certainly not against each other killing Israelis, but did not join up for a united front.

Because under Saddam they held the power. The reason's why they hate each other is the same as it was in Rwanda. Now that they don't hold the power, they want to take revenge on the group that kept them down.

It comes down to a fundamental difference in the leadership of Islam between the two. Read up on each. Islam is very divided.
If left to themselves they would kill each other. They have done alot of it before.

They hate each other--it's not just one way. And the historical answer is that these two sects have different beliefs about who succeeded Mohammad back in the 5th century.
