I will be 34 weeks and my baby's heartbeat has been really good since I was 18 weeks. My doctor hasn't done an ultrasound since then (when I found out.. it was a boy!)I'm curious because people keep telling me a strong heartbeat is a girl and that carrying high is a girl.. I'm carrying high as well but, from the ultrasound.. You can tell he's a boy. I'm going to ask my doctor at my next appointment to make sure it's a boy. Is that wrong to ask? I've bought everything for a little boy! I just needed some advice or something! Thanks..

I was told i was having a girl also, I am 32 weeks. The doc said the wives tale states if between 140 to 150 it is likely a girl. they said the carriage is totally a myth. They said it was a tale and not to believe in it too much. I also had a dream a week after I found out I was pregnant, and that it was a boy. Though when i had the 22 week ultra sound it took a long time to find out and alot of hunting around, they finally said it was a girl. I didnt trust it since it happened to my sister when they told her that her baby was a boy and when it was born it was very much a little girl. So her daughter had a basically boyish first year!!! They baby didnt mind of course but she was constantly telling everyone the story why her daughter was wearing blue truck onsies. haha.... anyway I had to have another Ultrasound last Thursday because of my blood pressure problems. They were checking growth, i just had them check again and thank goodness she is still a girl!!! yeah all the pinks are ok. I asked if they will give you an ultrasound if you request and they dont unless you have a issue they are worried about, or have cronic high blood pressure. You may get away with it if you tell them that you dont feel the baby moving as much anymore but then they will put you through a battery of tests and they still havent been real clear on if Ultra sounds are harmful or not to babies especially those new 3D ones.

An ultrasound is nopt always 100% but the heartbeat and the way you carry isn't either I carried my son high, and and he had a strong heartbeat. and the nurses and doctor kept telling me it was gonna be a girl.. ( I chose not to find out the sex, so it was fun watching them guess) but they were wrong, I had a boy.... Dont worry about the things you have bought, just keep the receipts and tags on everything until the baby gets here.. That is the only time you will know for sure what you are having.. I would keep the stuff anyways because when you least expect it things can turn out differently and if it does, it will make it easier to exchange....

Its not wrong to ask but even ultrasounds aren't 100%. None the less, you do know that the whole heartbeat and the carrying high/low things are just old wives tales. Though the ultrasound isn't 100% it is more accurate than wives tales.

The heartbeat and carrying high are old wives tales. If they had told you that it was a girl I would be worried it was a boy, but if they told you it was a boy then I would believe it because it's easier to see and distinguish. Don't worry, and I doubt your doctor would do another ultrasound for that reason. Insurance will not pay for that unless it is medically necessary.
Good luck

Ultrasounds can be wrong....but at the same time I would trust that over old wives tales (heartbeat, carrying high, etc)
According to the wives tales I should be carrying a boy...but ultrasound says girl (and it's pretty obvious by looking at it!)
Good luck!

You cannot tell anything for sure from old wives tales like heart rate or how you are carrying. And, most doctors will not ever tell you "for sure" if it's a boy or a girl, because they wouldn't want you to sue them if they were wrong.
With my daughter, the u/s tech told us she was "95% sure" we were having a girl; my doctor said that was probably right, but would never commit one way or the other.
I was paranoid, and bought some gender neutral things as well as pink, just in case, but she was indeed a girl. :-)
Relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. And buy some yellow or green if you're that concerned.

the heart rate telling you the gender is just an old wives tale. if the ultrasound said boy, then its a boy. usually the most times when a mistake is made is when they tell you a girl is a boy b/c the tech sees the umbilical cord as the penis. you might want to ask your doc if they plan to do one more ultrasound to check the position of the baby (make sure he's not breech). good luck!!

everyone is different. My friend had a really fast heartbeat and the sono really didn't show to much. Well it ended up being a boy. I always took my sono pic and scanned it .. I would enlarge it until I was sure it was a boy. I am hoping this time around it will be a girl. Everything is just what people say. I would believe your dr. You can ask but you may offend the sono tech.

The ultrasound is much more accurate then any wives tale. My son's heart rate wasn't in the "range" for boys and my sister has girls that had heart rates that should have been boys.
Trust the Ultrasound.

If you want to have another ultrasound to make sure, then ask. I know people who have had a ton of ultrasounds done just because they wanted to make sure of the sex. from my ultrasound they told me I'm having a girl, but I'm carrying low.
