feminism is the one that got you laws against rape. Feminism is the one that gave you the right to vote. Feminism is the thing that allowed you to get maternal leave for jobs. feminism allowed you to be pregnant on a job because back in the day you could get fired fot getting pregnant on the job. feminism is the one that protected you from sexual harassment and guaranteed EQUAL pay. Feminism was that person who told you you could play with the boys. Feminism is the one who expressed the voices of women to be heard so WHY ARE SOME WOMEN AGAINST FEMINISM?

I am NOT talking about RADICAL FEMINISM. Leaning too far to the left or right is bad.

You last statement explains it.

Some women (and men, for that matter) perceive feminism only by its most radical version. Some equate "feminism" with "man hating."

To some, feminism is the exact opposite of what it's supposed to be. Some women feel that they are NOT allowed to have personal choice, simply because feminism thinks that they are making the wrong choice. "You're a victim if you stay home and have babies" for example.

The extreme has harmed the cause by being extreme.

Few women would argue that anti-rape laws are good. Few women would ague that the right to vote is good. But not all women believe that maternity leave is a positive thing. Not all women agree that a woman's job should be protected for pregnancy.

So, even without the radical position, you need to understand that all women ARE going to agree.

I agree with you. I'm for all the things you listed and agree that some women go too far with it. I mean the man-hating feminists that don't believe it is ok to try to look attractive to impress a guy/man if you want to. I think that's going too far. I believe in equality, not revenge on the male gender. I think the women that claim to be against feminism are the ones who think that FEMINISM necessarily includes man-hating and thinking all men are evil, which it doesn't. I think that there is just a difference in the connotation of the word adopted by different people. A misunderstanding. I seriously doubt that any woman to ardently opposes feminism is against the right to vote, etc. Some women may be against these things, though, if their religion is against it. For example, maybe their religion dictates that women are to remain silent in the church and it is a sin for women to work outside of the home in the first place. Religious beliefs are the only ideas I come up with as to why a woman would be against those things.

I suppose there was a time when I would have been a feminist. All I really wanted was a level playing field. I have a wonderful career and I am very good at what I do. I wanted that to be recognized and to receive the rewards that I earned. I have achieved my goals by hard work. I do not want to be treated better than men, just as an equal, if I do an equal job. I want to get the positions because I am the best person for the job, not because I am the token woman.

Almost no women are opposed to equal rights, those that are? Well... there are people out there who think the world is flat too.

Too often Feminism ends up asking for preferential treatment, not equality. Too often instead of offering women choices, as it was intended to, it rejects women who make an 'old fashioned' choice just because they didn't pick the new option.

Manipulating people is fun.

Some women follow 'the old style' or whatever and were raised to knowing that women belonged in the house. I'm a feminist, but I don't think women should be better than men, or the other way around. Equality and all that! Though, I do believe that some jobs turn out awkward if the person is the opposite sex than expected. For example, I think women's doctors for childbirth and such should be women. I mean, no guy could really know the pains of childbirth, it doesn't matter how many textbooks he reads.

Why?? Because feminism is mostly full of misandry (that is hatred of men)

Feminism only cares for women's rights, forgetting that the other half of the population have rights as well.

You said it yourself, feminism has acheived all the aims it was made for, why does it still exist?? All feminists do now is try to punish men for being men and promote women as better/perfect people.

btw, there have always been laws against rape, they had them in ancient Babylon, and every civilisation since. Sexual harrassment did not exist in the women's suffrage era because any sexual activity was frowned upon.

I would also like to point out that while feminists preach that women should work as much as men do. Men aren't allowed to look after children nearly as much. Our maternity leave laws give up to a year for women and normally about 2 weeks for men. Who's gonna raise the kids?? that's a no-brainer I'm afraid.

Basically, women HAVE equal pay, women HAVE maternity leave, women CAN express there voices with ease. What exactly is the purpose of feminism now??

The modern feminist movement demeans men and women that choose not to work, it makes up lies to reinforce its own idealogy (such as the wage gap) it encourages sexism against men and boys but screams out at sexism directed at women.

To be honest, I don't know any women that would call themselves feminists, because women's situation is fine, and in some cases better than men's situation. How many feminists fight for the right to be forced into the draft??

It is a redundant idealogy, time to move on!!

I'm against the feminism that says a don't have the right to choose the traditional. I'm against the feminism that equates modesty with repression. And for some, that's the only feminism that they know. Feminism and women's rights has always been about the right to chose. And some have lost that important point.

You nailed it at the end. Radical feminism turns some people off of feminism in general. It is natural to be suspicious of a movement when you are exposed to fanaticism or extremism. Take Christianity, for example. There are millions of really nice, tolerant, educated Christians out there, and yet there is a big backlash against it. Or take racism as another example. Racism is obviously a serious cause of a lot of the country's problems, but fear of things going "too far" has lead to people shooting down affirmative action and immigration laws that would help minorities. People notice the extreme examples of a movement, and they associate the entire movement with the extremists. We do it with Islam in the Middle East. We do it with issues like gun control and abortion. It would seem only natural to me that people, women included, would do it with feminism. Some feminists insult men in general, or put down women who want to stay home with their kids. These women, and worse ones, shed a bad light on the movement as a whole. It's not right, but it's the truth.

Women are against it because they have been coerced to believe that it is not a good idea even though the majority don't understand what it even means. You have a lot of good points and I am sure that most women really are feminists at heart and would loathe to go back to the day when they were not allowed to leave the house, have a post secondary education or be allowed the rights to vote. Feminism has been given a bad reputation by males who would prefer for women to remain subservient and thus allow them the greater power. It is difficult to relinquish the dominant role if you have been brainwashed as a child or if you totally lack the self esteem to deal with others as equals.
All men don't realize that feminism is concerned with all kinds of oppression dealing with age, disabilities, culture, race etc. They think that by women wanting equality that they are stealing some of their rights from them when this is the furthest from the truth. Sexist males think that if women refuse to pick up after them and be their sex toys they are men haters. Feminism is simply equality in all realms and not just where sexist men throw a few crumbs now and them to keep down the rabble rousers.

You go on the extreme and peopel will not care what else you have to say. if you kill 10 mill peopel peopel will overhear that you love puppies. As somone else said, radical feminism put many girls off of feminism, since they do not want to hate men and end up lonely or screwed up unabel to parteciapate in a straight relationship.
