I said to my guy friend "You look like a chipmunk." Does this sound like an insult or a compliment?

~insult. What man/guy would want to be compared to a chipmunk? Be serious and stop pretending like you didn't/don't know... that was not such a nice thing to say.

I would be insulted, forgivable but insulting to tell a guy something like that. It's like one of your friends saying you look as cute as a shrew! It is a forgivable compliment but do you really like to think that a shrew looks as good as you?

YES, any reference to a critter as adorable as a chipmunk is a definite compliment. I love chipmunks! I took pictures of one I befriended at my Dad's house and told my then boyfriend I was leaving him for the little guy.

But seriously, it all comes down to perception. I view the world, nature and all its furry, little creatures as beautiful, hence I would never imply or infer such a comment to be anything but a sign of affection. However, your friend may have a different world view...and since he is your friend, you need to respect this.

In most case, I will say it is an insult.
