I am a librarian and would like to do a mock archaeological dig for area children. I plan to pre-place items for the children to find, such as old coins, bottles or pottery etc. Is there anyone who could help me figure out what items I will need for this project. Thanks

How about a mock archaeological dig for Chinese artifacts? You can bury stuffs such as:
1) Ancient chinese coins from centuries old dynasties. You can easily acquire genuine ancient chinese coins from coin shops. Buy the ones that are corroded, broken and full of verdigris. They are not sought after by most coin collectors and thus, you can get them at a bargain price.
2) Buy a few modern chinese pottery or porcelains(white with blue decor). Break some of them, then bury together.
3) Find some cheap Chinese amulets, brass pendants or brass figurines(such as horses, deities, oriental lions, etc).

Good luck with the project.
