First and foremost, how can one begrudge someone they've never met?
Yes, several of the prominently placed figureheads on our coinage were former slave owners (of note: Washington, Jefferson), but they were chosen because they played the greatest role in shaping the system that would ultimately lead to the end of the established system. Just because they failed create a legal foundation explicitly ending slavery does not make them "bad"--who is to say they did not intend it? "All men are created equal (T.J., Declaration of Independence, 1776)." That was certainly something to build upon when the people were ready for change--as was the case a century later. The colonies were weak and decentralized after the Revolutionary War--was it worth risking all out war immediately with the risk of being victimized by outside forces?
Concerning the former slave owners themselves--many of these people were born into their positions and raised to accept and believe in the cultural norms. One cannot be faulted for adhering to the greater laws and accepting the values of society--when it is the system itself that is at flawed. Again, those who laid the groundwork for such a radical societal change are certainly deserving of our honors.
These men were by no means common--the were enlightened for their day. George Washington was a considerate "owner" who freed his slaves on his deathbed as an example to others. Thomas Jefferson did the same and even fathered children with a former slave--which was highly publicized and came to light in recent years.
This was an excellent question--certainly worthy of being the topic of a university level philosophy essay. Not enough questions like these are asked.

If memory serves me correctly, Thomas Jefferson had upwards of 6 "illegitimate" children with a slave after his wife past away. The Slave, Sally Hemings, and all her childeren were subsiquantly set free during the time before and after his death. Sally was also provisioned for in his will. Allegedly a number of prominent Americans are direct descendants of T.J.'s slave children.

And on the popular those youthful female slaves have been approximately 12 to fifteen years previous. and a few might have you ever think of that those slaves represented the greater so referred to as " on the fringe of white looking" slaves you would be stunned. in particular the slave vendors and all different white adult males over 15 on maximum plantations appeared for the main athletic looking youthful female slaves to apply for his or her sexual desires . This grew to become into extensively usual for the period of slavery in usa extraordinarily in the south. those strikes by skill of maximum slave masters did no longer circulate neglected by skill of their different halves, and in maximum case used a a faux ruse of types to maintain their different halves in line. Ofcourse this grew to become into comparable to threating them with something that grew to become into already happening. different halves have been no better than contraband, very like the slaves the of the plantation vendors

I suppose the alternative is to be despicably poor.
Then be called a sellout should you choose to accept the dead slave owners in your wallet..

I carry euros in mine. As I recall they have buildings on them, not that I usually keep them in there long. I have teenage daughters as well!

I worked in a bank. People put money in nasty places. Those slave owners wouldn't be so flattered.

Those who choose to live entirely in the past are still slaves. And the saddest part is that they have only themselves to blame for it.

No. I'm of Anglo-Saxon descent, and I don't think that we should send the Statue of Liberty back to the French because they conquered my ancestors at the Battle of Hastings, either.
