I am a guy and I have been buying tampons for years. I even keep tampons in my truck just in case a girl runs out. I don't understand it because it is a fact of life for all girls out there. I think that guys need to grow up and realize that sometimes you girls run out and there is nothing wrong with running to the store and getting more. I think the better question is has any guy ever carried them in his vehicle for you.

There are a few reasons why they get embarrassed.

One, if a friend sees them, they will get razzed. BIG TIME! Can't you just envision the teasing a macho jock guy would get from teamates if he was seen? Yeah, I thought so. So, it isn't their own immaturity, but knowing how immature his friends will handle the situation that scares him.

Second, because it identifies the guy as having a steady girl/wife. The guy goes into the store, sees a cute cashier that he wants to look cool while going through the line, and he's holding a box of tampons? There goes that flirting. And don't think it doesn't happen, ladies!

Third, we are being made to buy something we will never ourselves use. So, we are being made to appear to be domesticated by our wife/gf/so. Guys hate appearing that they have been domesticated. It ruins that bad-boy image.

And last, there is the ultra-conservative "we don't even think of feminine hygine products as being necessary, because we don't think about girls having sexual parts" crowd. And if you think I am kidding, you'd be surprised at how many guys I worked with got real upset at having to re-stock the pads/pons because their religious beliefs gave them a sense of "wrongness" to it all. And they weren't kidding.

Me? I buy them, and still flirt with the cashiers. A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do! At least they know I am relatively harmelss. lol

Factuallt women are at the cash registers, and when men buy things for women such as that, they are embarassed because they are not used to buying things like that. We think the registeree would make comments about us later in the day, or ask questions about why we are buying them, and some even ask we buy them for our own personal use.
It is the same as walking into a lingerie shop, no one would ever catch me there.

It's an ego thing. Most guys look at the different sizes and think they need to get ones as big as their "tool", in order for you to have a snug fit. Then they over compensate, trying to impress any other men that might see what they are buying.
It's then that they get to the checkout chick with the JUMBO wad of cotton, receive nasty looks while perving at her breasts, dump the tampons, buy beer, and go home having forgotten they were even buying the tampons in the first place!

I'm not embarrassed. I'm proud when I go in a store and buy tampons for my girl. It's a great way to socialize with other females too >;P

I never realized how complicated getting them are. I mean, there are thick pads, thin pads, high abosorption low absorption. Night time pads. I never realized how complicated a woman's monthly period was until I once went to a store to buy them. And man did she make me go all out. I think I bout like 4 or5 boxes because they were on sale. The whole world was looking at me laughing like, "yeah, he must of pee'ed her off or somethung..." lol

I'm a guy, and I'm wondering why the hell would I be embarrased at buying feminine products! People in their right minds should know they're not for me! Matter of fact, I get compliments from women saying they wish they had a guy like me to buy their products when they couldn't!

the embarassing part to me is that, well, we don't know the brands and there are so darn many kinds. Having to walk up to another dude and say "Hey bro, how about you help me locate the Tampax Pearl with the easy pull string" just isn't normal.

Tampons are something that guys refuse to even DISCUSS. Who knows why they're so sensitive about it...but I have a theory. A woman's menstrual cycle and all the things it pertains to (like tampons) are something that they know absolutely NOTHING about. Being completely ignorant of something is probably enough for them to avoid the topic like the plague.

I don't know about other guys, but my husband, even when we live as b/f and g/f, didn't have a problem of go to the store and buy me pads, when I asked or when I don't even asked and he feels that I need one. And he even went to Victoria's Secret on their annual sale and help me pick out my bra and underwear size. I am so lucky, and I know he does it for me, because he loves me.

That is so true...well, on an episode of Sex & the City the guys used the tampons for solving a bloody nose. 8)
