Most of the time it's 2 teams from the same time zone. Doing it the NBA way would basically guarantee both coasts being represented in the Super Bowl thus more national interest as opposed to regional one. Did you think the SD-SF Super Bowl from '95 was a disaster waiting to happen?

Of course not. The money's in the east and the NFL knows it. Not to mention the great rivalries that would tear apart (Redskins Cowboys, for example. Mavs and Wiz are in separate conferences now). Keep it the way it is now. I wouldn't mind actually reverting to the old 3-division setup wtih 3 wildcards from each.

Also, there's the AFL legacy. Many AFC teams were once AFL teams, and we can't forget that.

Ok you had to go back 12 years for your example of a Super Bowl match up with two teams that just happened to be from the same state. I think that it is fine the way it is. Yes it is a good concept on theory but most people like it the way it is. You have your main rivalries that wouldnt get to happen anymore if you broke them up and the true football fans would be upset about that. and just because they are east and west that is no guarantee "both coasts" would be represented. Case in point this years SB with two teams in the great lakes region. Which coast do they represent? Lake Michigan and oh wait Indy isnt on any coast! i get that you want to have teams represented from both sides of the country but like I said it doesnt guarantee that in your new line up that KC and St. Louis wouldnt be the SuperBowl.

I think leave well enough alone. Besides I dont like basketball anyway. I only watch College and High School basketball. I dont even watch the NBA playoffs, heck I dont even know what time of year the playoffs are, so I really dont think football should be set up like basketball.

I like this question. An east/west situation would guarantee that a superbowl would draw fans from all over the US but thats about it. I also think that the great history of the AFC and the NFC would be lost. The east/west situation would also cause just as much controversy as the BCS so i say, if its not broke and theres not much controversy dont change it.

"More national interest"??????????????????

Let's see here. The Super Bowl is only the most watched game in American sports. It's not just a nationally televised game, but an internationlly televised game.

I say the conference allignment is fine. Besides the Cowboys will always be in the same division as the Giants, Skins, and Eagles so it doesn't matter.

The "national interest" part is intriguing, but I don't think teams would go for it, as they already don't enjoy flying across the country alot (in '04 the Chargers played like 4 or 5 away games on the east coast, and it wore them out).

There are teams in the NLF that have a national following. Dallas, oakland ,Miami, washington, No one would wacth a KC vs carolina because very few people carry about those 2 team. There have been time when the NFC championship game draws better than the superbowl. That if dallas played.

no never let it be its great the way it is there are too many historic rivelries in the nfl you cant take that away from the fans and the teams as far as national interest more people watch the superbowl than any other program it is a national just this side of being a real holiday

No, because the AFC and NFC, the Teams in the East and South have to Consulate, same with the West and North divisions, and it would be very confusing.

For national interest? Rather than REGIONAL INTEREST? Over 90 million people around the world are scheduled to watch Sunday's game...that features 2 teams that are separated by a 3-hour drive...90 million. I don't think that it really matters...

Ray types drunk or retarded, one...lol

I dont think so.There has always been this history with the AFC and NFC,dating back to old AFL and NFL.So there is a certain amount of rivalry separating the 2 conferences.I wouldnt change it.
