I wouldn't mess with home remedies for an ear infection. Go see a doctor. Home remedies can do irreparable harm to your hearing and as you might know, earache is very painful.

warm olive oil and mullein oil; you can get this already made at some health food stores. Also some homeopathy ear drops are very helpful.
A home remedy would be to heat a clove of garlic in olive oil. Let the oil cool until just warm, remove the garlic and then drop some of that oil into your ear and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Let the oil drain out by itself by laying on that ear on a towel.
If it doesn't get better, it would be good to see a doctor. Many visits to the doctor are under $50 if you pay cash (we didn't have health insurance for awhile and paid cash and got 20% discounts every time). If you do need an antibiotic, explain your situation to the doc and see if you can get samples.

The pain you are experiencing could be due to excess wax. Go to your nearest pharmacy (or Target or Wal Mart) and look for ear drops that help to break up wax build up and clean the ear canals. After putting the drops in your ear, hold a heating pad up to you ear for about 15 minutes (the heat will help the drops to work faster. If the pain persists then you are going to have to go see a doctor. If you don't have health insurance, see if you can get Medi-Care. Ear infections are something that you don't want to mess with. Pain is something your body uses to warn you that something isn't right so don't let the pain go on for too long.

When I start to think I am getting an ear infection I go to the natural food store and get what are called ear cones. They are a gauze covered with wax, they look like a hollow candle stick. you lay on your side and place it in your ear and have someone light it on fire. I cut a hole in a paperplate to put the cone through. What it does is slowly burns and the smoke goes into your ear and warms all the gunk, then from the flame a vaccume is formed and pulls all the gunk back up into the ear cone. It gives a very deep cleaning of wax and gunk. You have to be careful with noise for a few days.
