Because those of us who planned and have saved money and prepared as much as possible do not make unwanted children. It's not selfish. I had planned on adopting because we could not have children. We found out we were pregnant. Either way, after our child is a little older we will adopt. Your question shows what lack of common sense you have. And my brother was adopted so don't tell me he was unwanted. He is loved like no other and we thank the parents who cared enough to give him a better life and a brother who is the greatest. Maybe you should learn from them. No it is not selfish if someone wants their own child. It is not our responsibility. However, with that said if you have that much of a problem why don't you start adopting? It's not selfish for someone to want a child when the are prepared.
13 weeks and 1 day pregnant.

A child is a symbol of 2 peoples love and is something that they BOTH created. Its an important thing for some women to have.
The adoption process is something that many don't want, its too costly (yes so can fertility treatments) and then the psychological problems that can arise. Its a choice.
My husband has a adopted brother and he said that he will NOT adopt because he seen first hand what problems it can cause and how the child may react. Luckily my husbands parents adopted a first cousins baby, so the mother was known. Adoption was never hidden, and he (the brother) has experienced the same love that the other 5 "real" kids got.

It may seem selfish to some. Those are the ones blessed with the heart to adopt. For most women however, it's a natural maternal instinct to feel the need to procreate themselves. It's a growing organism inside you and that feeling cannot be replaced, no matter how much you love them, by adopting a child. But hey, I know some women who don't like children at all, so I guess it depends on who you are.

well if all of the parents of the unwanted kids would quit focking and popping them out as well as dying then that wouldnt be such a big issue bt all the people in hungry countries dont understand how to not do that plus you know floods and earthquakes dont help them but even here in the US crack whores and prostitutes get knocked up and throw them out so whos to stop all those people women breed so to speak because its a continutation of family and if you parents had adopted instead of breeding then you wouldnt be in the world today so what do you think about that or maybe you were adopted and thats why you ask well some people have unprotected sex without realizing that they arent sound enough or money wise to have a kid and thats why you were adopted so isnt it selfish for all of THOSE people to plop out kids without being able to take care of them like they should??that is the real question so who is the real selfish group the people who plop out the unwanted filth of the world or the ones who can have their own and provide a loving money wise environment. AND call me what you want but i have spoken the truth.

Women do not "breed." Dogs breed.
Women should not sterilize themselves. Dogs get neutered.
There are WAY too many parents wanting to adopt so-called "unwanted" children. This problem is particularly big in the USA, but it also common in Europe and some parts of Asia. Many parents choose to adopt from countries other than their own to deal with the shortage of so-called "unwanted" children in our country, and still have trouble finding kids!!!
If you want more information about the problems of world underpopulation, feel free to check out the links below. Many countries are offering parents extra money or tax breaks for having children because their population is shrinking.
Poverty appears to be directly co-related to governmental policies more so than number of children per household (which may not have any co-relation at all once other factors are accounted for).
Thanks for reading and God bless!

why are you in this topic? if what we say bothers you, leave. for all you know the women on here could have adopted children-- they are not going to label the children adopted- "johnny is sick, what do I give him? Oh, and he is adopted..." -- having your own child with someone you love is a very special thing-- being able to say "thats us" is amazing. i was adopted myself so I do understand and value adoption, however-- there aren't that may available babies-- there are people that have to wait for years to get a baby-- on top of spending thousands of dollars-- so maybe you should research what you're talking about instead of just opening your mouth a letting anything fall out. You go try to adopt-- I assume you haven't even tried.

That's an interesting perspective. I just wonder if you have ever looked into what it takes to adopt a child. Do you know the hoops that people have to jump through? The amount of money that it takes to adopt? All of the trials???? There are many that could never afford this or make it through the process.
Remember, the majority of people that adopt do so because they CAN NOT have children. So, to your way of thinking, aren't these people just as selfish or even more so?
There is nothing wrong with wanting your children to look like their dad and have your grandmother's smile. Kudos to all that have and/or care for children in any capacity.

Because they want to experience the joy of carrying a child.
Lots of women would rather adopt then have biological children though. Lots of women have bio kids AND adopt.
If the adoption costs were not so much, I have no doubt that more people would adopt. The cost is a very big factor in holding people back. They think they can't afford to.

And aren't you the complete jerk for saying that? You are obviously not a parent, or you wouldn't ask something like that.
Have your own child is a completely special experience.
The answer is for the people that are making the unwanted children to stop, not for the people that want them to stop.
And by the way, it's not called "breeding" when it's a human being. While we are technically animals, we are considered to be a higher life form, as we are sentient beings.
Oh yeah, and do you happen to know how expensive it is to adopt? And how about the fact that adoption isn't covered under any health insurance plans?
