I mean when you really sit down and think about it. Life is, in 100 or 200 years, no one is going to remember you. The things you did or didn't do. Even if you happen to write a book, that will eventually become meaningless, because one day, the sun is going to die out, and life on the planet will ceast. And when you think about it we haven't been on the planet that long, anyway.

So all in all, is life meaningless, are we just in a rat race of worthlessness?
Things people do now, might have some effect for sometime, but for how long.?

We're born, we exist, we die. There's no deep meaning to life. We're just organic beings following our basic instincts like any other creature. (mating and reproducing) Our lives have no more significance than that of a cockroach, but since we're arrogant humans we like to think it does. It's like the song says "we're here for a good time, not a long time". So enjoy it while it lasts! :)

Oh My Dear Friend, how very sad that you feel that way.
If our ancestors had felt the way you are feeling now, we would be in a worse situation now.
We can only do what we can do. We have to pave the way for the generations who follow us, in the best way we know how. There have been many times through history, where things have looked hopeless, but they didn't sit down and give up and neither can we.
I have six wonderful grandchildren growing up. I have a responsibility to them, to do whatever I can, to see to it, that they have an opportunity to have a productive, successful life to look forward to.
For many generations, people have thought the end of times were near, but yet and still, we are here. I am aware of the fact, that we will have a day when the Lord will come, and the earth will be no more. We don't any of us know, when that time will be. So, I feel it is our responsibility to make the best of our lives, while we are still here.

This life is just a vapor compared to what you could have when you leave this place. There could be so much more. I believe in eternal life for those who trust in Jesus Christ. But without him, I thin k you're right....what's the point accept to live out the short amount of time we have here on Earth.
In the Bible there is the book of Ecclesiastes written by a king who felt the way you do. He had seen it all, done it all, heard it all, and then wondered what's the point of it all.

Everything is meaningless. But, I suppose I'm okay with that. I don't need to be remembered. I'll be dead anyways.

Yes it does. But u won't have true life till u die. U have to be killed by an excutioner...Jesus. He will kill your selfish nature and implant His holy nature into you. Only then will u experiance true life.
