I would recommend reading Brian Greene's "The Elegant Universe," and his second excellent book is "The Fabric of the Cosmos." He has almost singlehandedly made string theory more understandable to the the general public. I don't know what show you watched, but Briane Greene is a great speaker, has helped Hollywood stars with science things, and it wouldn't surprise me if he was the subject of some interesting documentaries.

I can't help with titles or authors, but when you get some try Audible.com. They've got audio books available for download that you can burn to cd or put on an iPod. They're also cheaper than ordering media sent to you.
