In order to master a subject, a student should spend 2 hours studying for every hour spent in class. Studying includes completing homework assignments, reading assignments, and preparation for tests. You may have to do more or less depending on how quickly you learn and how much previous exposure you've had to the material.

The rule of thumb is that you should expect to spend at least two hours outside of class preparing for each hour in class. So if you are taking 15 hours of classes, investing another thirty hours makes school a full time job.

You may find that some classes have a low daily workload and the required reading is easy, while others have a heavy load and hard or tedious reading. You may find that a certain professor's teaching style matches your learning style well, and those classes will seem easier for you.

Lots of factors will influence how much time you actually have to spend, but you should probably plan on two hours of study/prep time for each hour in class until you find out your needs are different.

Best of luck to you.

I usually spend 3 hours a week for each class. That's because we're given a minimum of 250pages to read each week, and a 4-5 page response paper on the readings. If there is also an exam, quiz, test, or another paper due next class, then I usually spend 6 + hours.
College is a lot of work if you want to excel and if you happen to get tough teachers!

The quick rule of thumb is for every hour you spend in the classroom you need to devote twice as many hours outside of class per week.
So a 50 minute class x 3 days a week equals (roughly) 3 hours; you should spend close to 6 hours a week studying for that class.

That depends on how bright the student is. There are students who don't even have to crack a book, party all the time, and get A's and B's. Then you have those who rack their brains for days studying, and can do no better than a C.

Start with about two thirds of your spare time excluding sunday. A little less when there's nohting on and a little more when it's exam time.
