In Australia at present, former English people (well a few) want the term Poms banned. Aussies are a great nation of people with a sense of humour and the term "Pom" or "Pommie" has been affectionately used for former English people. Most "Poms" accept it for what it is, just a bit of fun and take no offence whatsoever. The origin of Pom is actually POME pronounced pommy, it is an acronym of Prisoner Of Mother England and as we know, the first whites in Australia were actually that. Anyhow, a few wowsers with absolutely no sense of humour at all want the word banned. What do you think?

That is ridiculous! Like you said, it's an affectionate term, it's not like we use it in an insulting way. The silly buggers should just get over themselves, I thought they were supposed to have a sense of humour! : )

I dont take offense to it, i have better things to do than to hissy fit over being called a pom... but it really doesnt make sense, your using pom (POME) to call the english when actually the australians were pomes?
But then again i can see the other point of view, being indirectly called a prisoner might get up some noses.

Kinda stupid, in my opinion. But then again, to the poms ahave any terms they use on the non-pommies? I've never been one for banning words. People call me a cracker or a stupid swede, i just smack 'em with my shoe, chuckle, and walk away.

She is a vile guy or woman and desperate for any exposure, subsequently explanation why she has already married Alex in Las Vegas & bought her tale and photographs to a mag. Peter Andre has had a fortunate get away, even if it fairly is a shame he would not have custody of their little ones as Jordan/Katie isn't mentally good to strengthen them right. it fairly is astounding that she is now making plans to have much extra little ones with Alex, no newborn merits a mum like her.

definately a case of pc gone crazy. what will the papers call the english cricket team during the ashes? does that mean i am no longer a "convict"or "skippy"? how disappointing that friendly slagging (sledging) has turned into this.

that's funny. I'd just start calling everyone that. I'm not into calling people down, but the English sorta deserve it....
