The book is usually far better than the film, the film has to be a condensed version due to time limits,I prefer reading the book before seeing the film, enjoy The Da Vinci Code, an excellent read,as with Dan Browns other books, try also The Day of The Jackal, The Odessa File,by Frederick Forsythe, they have both been made into excellent films,in the case of the first one ,get the origional film, not the rubbishy one with Bruce Willis, Also,The Eagle Has Landed by Jack Higgins

The Harry Potter films are good but I agree with you the books are much better. The Potter books are long and a great deal gets left out when one prepares a screenplay for a 2 hour movie. The most successful movie I've seen based on a lengthy literary work was Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. But if you're going to read DaVinci Code make sure you read Angels and Demons first. It is a better all around book and I heard that that film is in pre-production.

I almost always prefer books to the film. The only exception to this was The Green Mile. I read the book when it was originally released in 6 parts and I didn't get into it at all so was not optimistic when the film was released. Went to the cinema to see it in the end and was very impressed. Like I said though, other than this I always prefer the book.

Movies both. The books don't really have an artistic value. Although the story about Jesus is explained better in the book (The da Vinci Code).

I would have to say it depends. I'd rather read a good book like martina cole or john harvey but i liked both the harry potter films and books. Prisoner of azkaban was the best. but i must also say that i read the green mile before i watched it and was expecting the film to be rubbish but it brought the book alive and is one of the best films ever!

The book for The DaVinci Code is much better than the movie. Make sure you read one with the illustrations so you can see the art the author is referencing.
Generally, I prefer to read the book, but there are some big exceptions. I loved the movies for Lord of the Rings and I hated the books because Tolkien's writing is so dry.

i prefer the books, which only leave you able to pick holes in the film. in the philosophers stone for instance, harry has started to receive letters for attending hogwarts, so uncle vernon sleeps under the letter box, harry stands on him by mistake. this should have been in the film i feel, for comedy value. but the characters are brilliantly casted in the films right down to nearly headless nick.
trainspotting, the book is so much better than the film.
the da vinci code is not very believable, more holes than swiss cheese etc etc

The book any day. Books include so much more for the imagination than films can. Films xcant get everyhing from the book onto the screen so it is much more worth while to read the book!

The only time I enjoyed a film as much as the book was "The Shining" (Stephen King). Normally the films are crap because they either leave a lot of the stuff out or they add things that were never in the original!
