When this happens I have to use the back button's down arrow, which now says "current page," and go back manually. This is extremely frustrating since I have a "back" button on my mouse which won't work if the drop down back says "current page." Can anything be done to stop it? Thanks!

That is a common (and irritating) practice on some sites that want to try and keep you on their site.

I'm not sure why any site would do this because it just irritates the heck out of most people to the point that you try to avoid that website in the future.

When this happens, you can sometimes press the back arrow twice very quickly and it will take you back the way it should have. Otherwise, you don't have much choice but to go back "manually".

One of the things I can suggest is if you really wanted to keep that original page available, you can try right-clicking on the link you want and use "Open in new Window" instead. That way, all you have to do is close down the window and you are back where you started.

The reason this happens is that the previous page is a redirect. When you load a page that is a "redirect", it waits for a set amount of time (or no time), and then sends you to a new page. There are many reasons to do this, but the main one is if someone has changed the web address of their page, but can't change the link that got you there.

Anyway, when click your back button, it sends you back to the redirect page, which then redirects you to your current page, so it looks like you are just refreshing the page, when in fact you are going back and then being sent forward again immediately.

To get around this either press the back button multiple times quickly, or select the page you want to go back to from the back button's drop down menu (it should have a little down arrow next to it that shows your history).

Some pages have a time limit on them. Usually secure pages like if you were on your telephone or bank account. It has to do with security. So if it happens note what you were doing. If it does it on simple googling or you are looking at some unsecure stuff like your mail, or newswire, then I would not know what to say or do then.

Unfortunately this is caused by how the website was designed.

They may be doing processing between pages for tracking purposes as an example.

So you can't stop it...
