Apart from a small vocab, using "like" and other substitutes of normal words shows that you are nervous, and desperately looking for something secure - like the word "like", which you probably use on the ordinary basis. The best way to get over it is to calm down, try to avoid laying out everything you have to say in 5 seconds. Speak slowly, with proper intonation. Address you words to the audience.

When speaking, UMs and LIKEs and similar stallers tend to distract your listeners. They will interpret LIKE and UH as though you do not know your subject matter and they will think: why should I give you my full attention? That is one reason that the use of LIKE will diminish your chances of giving a good speech to engaged listeners. If you feel the need to say LIKE, use SUCH AS to make the reference point. If you feel the need to say UH, just take a big deep breath and make eye contact with someone in the back of the room. Inhaling is much better than saying UMMMM in the middle of your talk. Good luck.

Using the word like too much in a sentence indicates that the individual is unable to express what the situation actually is. They are limited in how they can describe something, either because they do not have a complex enough vocabulary, or they are unable to mentally take in the whole situation and must then describe it in terms of other familiar things.
Good luck in your presentation. I hope it goes well.

It makes the person sound as if they have no vocabulary.
That translates into sounding dumb.
It's also mostly used by young people, so when we hear it, we assume the person is extremely immature. Dippy and goofy.
People don't take others very seriously when they interject the word like every few seconds.

People use it as a filler word. It doesnt add emphasis or meaning to what is being said. Personally, it makes someone seem uneducated and or ignorant. I put in on the same level as someone saying " you know what I'm saying" after every sentence.

I have found that mostly younger people use like, who are younger than 18, because it is considered a "fad" and makes them more popular, because they try and fit in with everyoneelse in school. A lot of other people use it because to me, they ave limited vocaularies and can't find a suitable word other than 'like' to use in their sentences all the time.
Basically, I put it down to immaturity, and the fact they think using the word is "cool"

Unfortunately since "like" as well as " nice" are such commonly uses words people are bored of them and don't like them. Don't worry you can use a thesaurus which has lots of alternatives for like.
Hope this helps!

Shows lack of confidence. Teenagers often use "like" instead of "umm" "ahhhh" and it helps them keep the narrative going while their brain thinks of what they want to say next.

It's like that song like 'Feelings' like people are really getting ;like tired of it like you know? ('You know' repeated constantly is another classic) It may have been cute the first 5000 times you heard it. Over exposure they call that in the entertainment industry.
